@pmerr: You WILL bounce back! I know it’s really hard to keep a positive attitude about this, but you can totally kick this in the butt! Just keep concentrating on feeling better, eating right and getting some exercise if you’re able to. Start keeping a food journal if that helps out. That way, you can refer back to it if you ever need help with what you need to eat and when.

You can do this! Each morning is going to be a challenge, but wake up and say, “I’m going to beat this…” and the days you’re feeling down, just ask the Bees for some help Laughing

@pmerr: Feel free to PM me if you want someone to talk to about it or if you have any questions. I had thyroid cancer last year, had surgery in December, and did the radioactive iodine treatment in April and now have a clean bill of health (though still some more follow-ups later in the year and bloodtests pretty much forever). I’m also a medical student, so I understand the situation rather well.

I’m glad to hear you had your surgery and that you’re on your way to living a normal life again!

Hi Pmerr!

I’m a thyroid cancer survivor, so I know what you’re going through. The same thing happened to me. They found one nodule during a regular yearly wellness check, and during an ultrasound, they found multiple nodules. During the biopsy, it was concluded I had “pre-cancerous” cells, and they recommended a total thyroidectomy, which I had. After surgery, they finally concluded it was full-blown cancer that had spread to two lymph nodes.

You’ll be FINE. I can assure you of that. The good thing is, this type of cancer is pretty non-aggressive (which I’m sure you’ve heard a million times). The iodine treatment really sucks because of the whole “quarantine” factor, which was hard for me, but once you get through it, you’ll feel really good and be totally back to normal.

I had my surgery about three years ago, and I still have yearly iodine scans and ultrasounds because it had spread to lymph nodes, but my endo says that at the five year mark of clean scans, I can stick to basic blood test. Woo hoo! I’m just looking forward to that 🙂 I still get tiny signs of thyroid tissue popping up in my scans, but overall they’re technically clean.

Just push through, and you’ll be a stronger person because of it. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me!
