I would go for the purple bow tie for your groom and non-purple neckties for the groomsmen. If the tuxes match, that's plenty to make it look cohesive.
My FI is wearing a pink bow tie (he's such a good sport!) and the groomsmen are wearing green neck ties. I think it'll be a good look.
Why don't you think the guys will wear purple? It's just a tie...tell them to suck it up. :) What if you did a black tie with purple accents...like stripes or dots or something??
go to www.freemanformals.com ... they have a mannequinn you can dress up to get a better visual. :)
I think it'll be just fine. Let your guy wear his bowtie..he'll appreciate it
The groom has to stand out, so he should go with the purple, and let the other guys go with non-purple.
I know lots of guys who wear purple. I never knew it's a boy no no color. Even if they don't like it, they'll deal with it for one day. Girls are constantly forced to wear dresses they hate in horrible colors as bridesmaids.
@candy nee. i'm jealous! my fi just wasn't having pink.
i think you should just have them wear what you want them to. like others said, they can suck it up and wear purple. if you like non purple better, that will look fine too.
I think a cool tie is a great idea. What about a striped purple tie...
I was trying to find a purple and grey or purple and silver, which could look really nice. Here is an example though - Ties-Necktie.com

I know it's going against the majority, but I really like the idea of a purple bowtie for the groom and purple ties for the groomsmen. I think there's something a little unexpected about that, but the matching colors would help keep it cohesive.
I like the idea of a purple bowtie and purple neckties. However, if you think they will put up a fuss, then I think you should do a purple bowtie and non-purple neckties.
Thanks for the input everyone! Still don't know what we'll do, but I'll keep all these suggestions in mind!

Will it look silly to have the groom wear a purple bow tie and the groomsmen wear non-purple (gray, black, or silver) neck ties?
My FI really wants to wear a purple bow tie. He has done a ton as far as wedding planning, but in an effort to make our parents and me happy, few parts of the wedding are things that he actually likes. I want him to wear his purple bow tie that he has his heart set on - he deserves it! (Sidenote: The bridesmaid's dresses are purple)
I know the groomsmen are supposed to somewhat match the groom, so we were planning on everyone wearing the same tux. I originally wanted the groomsmen's ties to semi-match his, but that would mean either a) purple neck ties or b) non-purple bow ties. I don't like option a, because I understand most guys hate wearing purple, so I don't want to do that to our close friends. I don't like option b, because I am not too fond of the look of a bow tie. But will a purple bow tie and non-purple neck ties look completely silly?
Thanks!
