Hmmm…. that should definitely not happen with the sterling silver used by Tiffany. Are you sure it’s not a knock off?

I wear Tiffany sterling and have never had an issue.  I have to wonder if it’s due to pregnancy changes and hormones, and how your body reacts to things!  Do you have any other sterling rings that you can try out and see if they do the same thing?

Which ring did you get?  I’m currently rocking a sommerset and I love it!

Everything except gold turns me green. Even sterling silver. The last time I had a silver ring, it was from James Avery. I took it in with my green finger and they polished it and it was much less green he next time, and eventually it stopped. They attributed it to my acidic skin. I need white gold dipped after about two months, and anything that is costume jewelry is corroded and ruined after about an hour. It really sucks! Lol.

graygodess20:  You may not want to do this to your ring, but you could paint it with clear nail polish. You can’t see the polish and it comes off on its own over time so after your pregnancy you don’t have to repaint it or you can take it to a jeweler to polish it off. I have sensitive skin so unless it’s platinum or gold, I use clear polish and it works for me.

This has happened to my DH’s wedding ring and an heirloom ring that I have. Someone told us that it has to do with your blood acidity. (DH eats a lot of spicy food so it happens more often, where as mine only happens once in a while).

It’s your body chemistry, and probably more so prominent right now because you’re pregnant. Do you regularly wear hand lotion? It might be reacting with that, try not putting anything on your hands for a couple of days and see if it persists. If it does, then it’s body chemistry and might go away after the baby is born. Bummer that it’s happening with a brand new ring!!

Just wanted to reply to both here because I had the same issue with my Tiffany ring — so it’s not necessarily a knock off! I was literally in the store when FI bought my sterling silver open heart ring and I wore it out of the store.

I was totally weirded out by it too but when I asked our jeweler at Tiffany’s, she said it sometimes happens because of the higher concentration of silver that Tiffany uses, or something like that. It’s actually not as uncommon as you might think. But yeah I totally had the same WTF reaction.

It used to turn my finger green but it honestly just eventually went away.

Sterling Silver does the same to me.
