I’ll be 26 weeks on Friday and for the last few days have been getting this tightness/stretchy feeling in my belly. I called my doctor about it over the weekend and to play it safe, she sent me to labor & delivery to rule out pre-term labor. I thought this is what Braxton Hicks was, but turns out I was wrong, as BH last for 30 seconds or so and what I am feeling is more constant. Anyway, all the test came back perfect, cervix closed, thank God. They also checked to make sure I didn’t have a UTI, and that came back negative. Baby looked great and is measuring on track.
Problem is, the doctors never gave me a good explanation for what I’m feeling.
They told me to hydrate more, so I started drinking at least one 8 oz glass of water every 1-2 hours (during the day). It hasn’t helped =(
They said it might be gas, but I’ve been avoiding gassy foods and its not like I feel gas pains. But I do notice that I really start to feel it after I eat..so maybe it is related to digestion.
They also said it could just be my uterus expanding.
Anyway, I still don’t feel reassured that this feeling is OK. I was hoping to find someone on here who has experienced something like this and if they did anything to help them feel better. Its not painful at all, but its just uncomfortable and I really don’t want to spend the next 3 months feeling this.

is it your baby pushing it’s bum/head/back out into you? My little guy does this atleast once a day, and it’s definately uncomfortable. It’s like he plants his feet and pushes his bum out as hard as he can. And then keeps it there. My stomach actaully goes lopsided when he does this.
I also have days (usually about once a week) where my stomach just feels extra bloated all over. It’s uncomfrtable, and I don’t get any reliefe no matter if I stand/sit/ay down. it usually lasts about 12 hours, and I assume it’s just uterus growing/baby growth spurt.

@anotherbee: That’s a good point..it might very well be her position!

I’m nearly 30 weeks, and for the past 5-6 weeks, I’ve had days where my belly feels VERY tight and has lots of stretching pain/tightness – I always assume they are “growth spurt days” haha. One time it was SOO bad after I ate dinner that I felt like I could barely stand to walk because it felt like my stomach would just rip open. But yeah I do notice it is worse if I eat salty things that day, probably because the bloating causes even more stretch. The position can definitely make your belly feel weird too!

@dreamocracy: Thanks for your response! I do feel it after I eat, so I think it has to do with just getting bloated..oh the joys of pregnancy!

I have it too and my midwives say it is BH. For some people BH are longer in duration. I take CalMagCitrate (Calcium Magnesium Citrate) and it helps. (a scoop of it disolved in a large glass of cold water)

I had something similar a few weeks ago. At night my stomach would get tight and last that way all night and would feel normal the next morning. They had no definete answer for me either. Said it could be because I’m doing more at home than at work (I have an office job) and said to take it easy with my feet up and drink more water. It has stopped since I went in to have them check, I guess it lasted a week or 2. Hopefully it won’t last too long for you!
