I had a customer yesterday ask how much time off we had for christmas and when i told her she was shocked, and continued to say 'I should stop complaining about 13 days'
So how much time do you have off for christmas (as in not asking for annual leave or time away, just time off for the holiday)
FI is an accountant and the firm he works at will be shut for 2 weeks over christmas - paid leave
I am a financial advisor and my work will only shut christmas day - which is a paid day
Not-BF is in the Navy, so his "time off" is rare. Luckily, he will be home for xmas. He doesn't have any time off persay, he still has to work the coming weeks and he gets xmas off.
I get every day "off" I guess, being a stay-at-home wife looking for work.
I work for the county government and my courthouse is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
We just get stat holidays off but then have 6 weeks to use wherever.
If I'd been employed where I am for the whole year (local government) then I'd get 4 paid days. But since I got put on the books in September, I only qualify for one day, so I'll either be working through or taking whatever annual leave I have, which is only 20 hours at the moment...
I get Christmas Day & Boxing Day off at my full-time job. I'll probably end up working Boxing Day though at my part-time job. So, just Christmas Day probably.
@Pokemon: yah, our stat holidays are just Christmas and Boxing Day. And then NY's day too. I use vacation days to full in the gaps so I have at least two weeks off.
i don't get any holidays off unless it happens to be on one of my normal off days. DH gets christmas day off, but that's it.
One day. (Techically a government worker)
Christmas isn't a huge deal in this country.
I get Xmas day, boxing day and new years day off - but not this year. Getting married on 22nd Dec so have 3 WEEKS OFF - YAYYYYYY!
I work in the restaurant industry so I already have Sunday/Monday off for my weekend. In addition I get two days off. Xmas day and the day after.
NYE is what really screws us up because we are ALWAYS open on NYE. So we get off Sunday the 30th, work the 31st, and then get the 1st off as well. What a shitty week that's going to be.
@Bebealways: where do you live?
Im surprised how many people are in the same boat as me. All my family and friends (other then work friends lol) at least get a week off
@Pokemon: South Korea. It all catches up to me around chinese new years though, we get a bunch of days for that.
Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day are bank holidays so I get those off paid. We then have 'forced Annual Leave' and 3 days of our annual leave is automatically deducted for the days between Christmas and New Year. The office runs incentives for Christmas Eve so that doesn't come out of AL but we usually all get that day off.
So this year my last day in the office will be Friday 21st and I'll be back in on Wednesday 2nd. So a whole 9 days off in one go!
I will be getting 3 days off: Christmas eve, Christmas day, and the day after Christmas.
We only get the day, but personally I am taking the day before and after as well. I have to travel out of state so its a bit of a necessity.
I'm a grad student, so sort of no time off at all - we're expected to work through December. I never do any work at all on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or Boxing Day, and I usually try and work a lot in a few days so I have more days open to whatever I please. Obviously I have a fairly flexible schedule so as long as I have something to show for it at the end of it all, it doesn't matter when I actually do the work.
DH and I both only have Christmas Day off. He is a computer programmer and I work for the marketing dept at a non-profit. I don't think I know anyone in my personal life who has more than that off (except maybe a few of my teacher friends?).
@Pokemon: We are only closed on Christmas. Christmas Eve is a 1/2 day, close at 2. Due back in work 12/26. But I took a personal day. It is annoying, but what can you do? They pay me so...
At my current job (which I'm in process of my two weeks notice) you work on Christmas Eve until they tell you we're leaving (sometimes noon, sometimes 5, depends on the boss' mood from what I understand). Christmas is an unpaid day off and you work boxing day. At my new job I get Christmas off unpaid, and I suspect I get Christmas Eve as well (I have to check I know he said I get the standard holidays off, which I thought was New Years Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas but I just found out I get Black Friday off too which will be a little weird because I start the day before Thanksgiving).
Just Christmas Day and New Years Day...technically we're not even closed anymore on those days, so there are still some people who have to be there on the actual holiday.
I'm a teacher so it varies but this year we get Dec 24-Jan 1st off. We used to get more, depending on when Christmas fell. We also get 1/2 day before Thanksgiving and the rest of the week off and one week in the spring for spring break.
I get from Christmas Eve to New Years Day off, and I'm really grateful!
I'm used to working retail (and actually worked on Christmas from 12-8...ugh!) so my new job is certainly a step up. =]
I work as an accountant for a nonprofit. We get from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day off.
Technically, none!
I work at a hospital, we have no "days off", we have to take PTO for everything. I could work on Christmas if I wanted, even though nobody else would likely be in the office. (I'm a computer programmer, we work in an office building that is seperate from the actual hospital.)
I'm taking 2 days off: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
We get Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and 2nd January as public holidays and if they're over the weekend the days are just the next weekdays (i.e. if 1-2 January are Saturday and Sunday we get Monday and Tuesday or if they're Friday and Saturday then we get Friday and Monday).
This year I'm finishing up at lunchtime on the 21st December, taking 24 December as flexi leave, getting 25-26 December as public holidays, taking 27-28 December as flexi, 29-30 December is a weekend, taking 31 December either as flexi or annual leave, 1-2 January are public holidays, 3-4 January will be taken as annual leave and then I have 5-6 January as a weekend and finally return to work on 7 January. 16.5 days off for the price of 2-3 days of annual leave. :D
I only get Christmas and New Years Day. However, it's a good bet that Christmas Eve will be a half day at most. One place I interviewed with closed down for the last 2 weeks of the year. That seemed great until I realized that you have to use or annual leave, which is only 2 weeks, or not get paid during that time.
Christmas falls during our winter break so I do not get off specifically for Christmas per se. But my last day is Dec. 14th and I go back Jan. 14th.
yup one of the perks of being a grad student is that our scchedule is still fairly flexible. my advisor understands that it's one of the few times I get to see my family, so I usually take about two weeks off. I usually regret it the second I get back but I'm going to miss it so much when I start working
Just Christmas day. I think we get to leave 2 hours early on Christmas Eve. Whoopdie-do. Just started so I have no vacation days which means no traveling to visit family this year.
I work in non-profit social services. We usually get the day of a Holiday off and that's it. And then we are still usually open on those Holidays to provide services depending on if enough staff volunteer to work for free. I don't have a lot of fam events so I will usually work a Christmas shift.
I get state holidays so normally Christmas eve and Christmas. Last year since it was over the weekend I only got the 26th off. I also took off the 26th this year but I am using 1 of my vacation days
But I get 23 vacation days a year plus sick leave so I don't really complain too much.
We get Christmas Eve and Day and New Years Eve and day. I'm also taking vacation the rest of Christmas week and Jan. 2.
We're taking 1 business week (5 days) off, plus Christmas day and New Years day, so 7 business days total.
I work at my college and get about 1 1/2 weeks off for christmas break before I have to go back to prepare for the next semester.
