In my ideal world I work up until the week of the wedding and then quit (i hate my job) and then go back to school to get my masters in the fall (our wedding is July). Unfortunately, I am not sure if we are going to be able to pull it off financially and I may have to go back for about a month after the wedding. In that case I will take off a week after the wedding.
That's sad they hate when people take time off! Especially for a wedding. Glad you were able to make it happen anyway!
I am taking two weeks off for the honeymoon. I haven't told my empolyer yet, it's still in the works and 7 months away, but I dont anticipate any problems since I have the vacation time, and others have taken big chunks of time off. It's really a great work enviroment, I consider myself pretty luck to be there.
There should be a corporate law to give employees two days off before the actual wedding and two weeks after for the honeymoon. If you have accrued the time you should be able to take the time. It's also good to ask for the time off well in advanced.
I'll be taking leave for two weeks. The military doesn't generally allow you a lot of time off, but I'm currently deployed so I deserve a little R&R when I get back.
We don't have the funds for a full honeymoon right after the wedding. Instead, we'll be hanging out in Vegas for a couple of days after the ceremony. Hopefully the REAL honeymoon will happen next year. :)
We both work at the same company and each have 3 weeks of vacation AND our company gives us an extra week off as a wedding gift! So we are takng four weeks off! It will be a little rough getting to October without taking any vacation days, but when we are on our 18 day European cruise, I think it will be worth it :)
I'm an attorney and I got a lot of grief for asking for two days off before my wedding and the week after for my honeymoon. I wish I worked for a company like @emmeeay-L that gave me time off!
emmeeay- that's so wonderful they give you a week as a *gift!*
I'm taking three weeks total. I'm having a semi-destination wedding, so the first few days off are for my wedding, and then the rest are for my honeymoon!
My boss was a little taken aback when I asked for three weeks. But I have tons of vacation time stored up, and a few others in my department have taken off 3 weeks for their wedding, so although its not the "norm" its also not unheard of.
I was in between semesters in school when we got married, so I took what I needed. My husband took about 4 days for the wedding and six months later he took nine days for the honeymoon (only seven of those were actually used for the honeymoon).
Our honeymoon is 7 days but I am taking a total of 10 work days off for the wedding. Hopefully no more but I guarantee I will be just a warm body at work the 2 days before I take off for the wedding!
I'm currently finishing up graduate school, and do not have a job (for the first time since I was 16). I will graduate in May, the wedding is one month later. Our honeymoon is 7 days, and FI will have to get back to work. I don't know if I'll head back to work or start work or take some time off to settle in or what! I have several settings I can choose to work in, and right now the school is looking promising, as I most likely wouldn't have to start until August and could have a month and a half off. I guess we'll see!
From wedding to end of honeymoon I'm taking 2.5 weeks, I'm taking wed-fri week before the wedding, honeymoon is sunday-monday, and i'm taking the rest of that week off to recover!! I'm saving ALL the paid leave I can to make it work!!!
I'm hoping to take a week off, but I work at an elementary school and our wedding is during the semester, so I suspect that I'll only be "allowed" to take off 3 days.
I teach and we're getting married during the school year, so I'm lucky to have 6 days off (I had to make a special request).
I get 10 days of vacation + 3 floating holidays each year and I'm using 11 of those for the wedding! 2 days before and then 9 days for the honeymoon. Luckily, we're getting married at the end of June, so I get to use July 4th as 1 day off for free :) I'm sure my employer isn't terribly happy, but they knew that I was getting married when they hired me back in October.
We actually planned a vacation for August but we're getting married in September. We're not taking a honeymoon after the wedding though so the vacay in August is our honeymoon. :D We're going hiking in Maine and September isn't the best time for us to go... We're getting married over Labor Day weekend so I'm taking the Friday before off and then we're closed on the Monday after. My boss is being weird about my vacation and pretty much threw a fit, but I don't care b/c I have the time!
I'm taking the week of the wedding off (with an added day for the July 4 holiday) and the week after the wedding for the honeymoon. I'll return from the honeymoon late Saturday night and know it will be tough getting back in work mode for Monday morning. If I had kept my job on a political campaign there would be no wedding and no time off so I feel lucky!
Since our wedding is on a Thursday and my family is all coming in the weekend before from other states I am taking the whole week of off from work. My FI and I aren't taking an official honeymoon...with the economy the way it is and not knowing if we'll be victims of lay offs we want to avoid spending the money right now and wait until we know more. We'll obviously take the day after off and spend the weekend together but probably just stay locally. We are waiting until our wedding to be "intimate" so I think it will just be wonderful no matter where we are! ...hopefully not too much information for you all :)

I was wondering how much time people are taking off for their honeymoons and how their bosses feel about it?
I am a paralegal in a personal injury law firm. I am taking eight days for the wedding and honeymoon. I broke the news to my bosses today. They are NOT excited, because they hate it when we take time off, and I was out for a week last month after having a minor abdominal surgery. Luckily, I've made myself pretty valuable to the company, so I had a lot of negotiating power. I just figure- I'm definitely not doing the job I plan on doing for the rest of my life-- hopefully I'll be out of there within 5 years. I'm certainly not going to let that stand in the way of taking my Parisian honeymoon.
