I read the book and I LOVED it.  I didn't think I would, as it borders on "romance novel" at times, but it was great!  I gobbled it up in few days.  The movie is out today and stars Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana, who I think are great picks for the lead characters.  I was SOO excited to see it, but I heard some reviews that said it was terrible--like walk out in the first 30 minutes, bad...sigh.

I think I'm still going to go see this.  Who's with me?

Are the reviews really that bad?  Frown  That's disappointing.  FI and I were planning on having a night at the movies tonight so we could see it.  I loved the book so, so much.  (But, I guess the book is usually better than the movie anyway.)

I think we'll still go see it -- maybe it's not as bad as what the reviews say?  Fingers crossed!

The movies are never as good as the books! I'm reading this book right now in hopes to see the movie though! I don't like to spoil the book though, so I'm trying to get through that first! If you do go see it - let me know if you feel as if it was terrible or true to the book.

I think one of the only movies that I've seen that was very true to the book was Pride & Prejudice. It hit all the key moments and I just love both the movie and the book. Perfect!

I haven't read the book....but the preview for the movie has made me want to see it sooo badly! I may even wear a book. I have a HUGE girl crush on rachel mcadams. She is soo beautiful.

Yes very true - movies are never as good as the books!

It's getting bad reviews, apparently they changed the ending to a happier one because test audiences didn't like it. I think I'll wait for DVD.

I think I read the book, but honestly, I don't remember it very well.  I was thinking of seeing this with my sister, but wanted to wait to see what the reviews were like.  If it doesn't look great, I might wait and rent it when it comes out on DVD.

hmm, FI is taking me to see it tonight for my bday and I can't wait! I can't say enough about how much I LOVED the booked. I've seen mixed reviews, but how often have you loved a film that recieved poor reviews and hated a film that recieved great ones? That seems to happen often to me. Anyway, most reviewers agree that you'll need to suspend your disbelief for this film and just go with the flow to enjoy it.

I so want to see this!  I'm a big fan of reading the books first but I'm not sure I can wait with this one... Hubby isn't too keen on it though so we'll have to see... Pretty sure it's my turn to chose Laughing

I have never read the book.  I am not sure if we will see the movie.  But I hate it when they change the endings!  I heard they did that for My Sister's Keeper, which made me not even want to see it.

Loooooved the book.  One of my favorites of all time.  Kind of want to see it but kind of don't because I loved the book so much.

I always thought Johnny Depp would make a great Henry Detamble.

THis is one of my favorite book sof all time.  I was so excited to hear the movie was in the making but once the previews started popping up I was disappointed.  I looks like too much of a sappy romance movie and that's not what the book was.  I'm so bummed to hear they changed the ending.  I was telling FI how much I would be pissed if they did that.  I'm still going to see it but I just hope they didn't turn it into a Notebook type of movie.

I'm just finished the book and am really excited to see the movie! Although I'm curious about how much they will leave out since SO much goes on in the book :/. I remember being disappointed with White Oleander and The Girl with the Pearl Earing when those came out years ago :/ Oh well ~ I'm def. going to see it anyway :)

What?!  They changed the ending to a happier one?  How lame is that?  I hate how books so often get butchered when they are transferred to the screen.

I also really liked this book.  Truthfully, I've been weary of the movie based on the previews, which look so cheesy and although I really like Rachel McAdams, I don't think she was a good pick to play the leading role.  She doesn't fit the descriptions of that character at all, should be artistic, red-headed, introverted, etc.  I just can't really see it working too well.  I would have pictured this character being played by Lauren Ambrose, who played Claire in Six Feet under. http://img2.timeinc.net/ew/dynamic/imgs/050531/15362__claire_l.jpg

and Erindesmar- I agree that Johnny Depp would have been a great pick for the time traveler!

I'm sure I'll go see it, I may even drag the FI along!

I LOVE that book, it's one of my favorites. But the movie looks awfully cheesy and silly; although I do like Rachel McAdams (but not so much Eric Bana as Henry). Hmm, what a conundrum. Tongue out

The book is AMAZING...so I would be surprised that the movie could do it justice. The cast is great, but I'm curious to see what they did change in the storyline. I can't believe they would change the ending, becuase the ending of the book is so just how it had to be. Sigh.

I just finished the book and while it was hard to get into at first, I ended up enjoying it and finishing it pretty quickly.  I haven't read any reviews or seen the movie, but I can see how it might be difficult to translate well on the big screen with all the time/scene shifting and the perspective switching back and forth from Henry to Clare.  I also wonder how they handle the fact that he's supposed to end up naked when he jumps to another time :)

I LOVED the book, and have read the negative movie reviews.  I'm still going!  And dragging FI, who hates chick flicks.

@Chantellamus - I've gone to movies on my own, too.  I was too embarrassed to admit to anyone that I wanted to see Twilight, so I went by myself.  :)

It's my sisters favorite book, and we're seeing it tonight.  I really hope it's good, she'll be so bummed!

    **Spoiler alert**

Did it irritate anyone else that they never explained why he time traveled?  That is driving me nuts!  I like all the loose ends to be neatly tied up in books.

I just saw the movie, it was decent. A bit cheesy but tolerable. I guess I probably shouldn't say too much since I haven't read the book so I don't know what is different about it and the movie.

Yeah... I think the acting left a little to be desired. There are some scenes that just feel so much like they are reciting memorized words, not FEELING the part, just playing it. In any case, hope you all aren't too disappointed!

    *** SPOILER***

    Stacy Marie-

I thought it did explain it a bit in the book when it talked about their child and how he also time traveled, that is was some kind of genetic abnormality or something like that... they didn't go into it too much but it said that after some time it was revealed that some people did time travel and it came more out into the open in society.  It has been years since I read the book, but that is what I recall???

I saw it with my husband on Friday - the movie was definitely not as good as the book, but I still cried my eyes out. They left out a lot (they had to without making the movie like 2.5-3 hours long) And yes, they did change the ending, but it didn't make it any less sad.

I saw it and I loved it. The scene with their wedding, in the garden = EXACTLY WHAT I WANT! I have been trying to find photos that will show the scene to the fiance (he didn't read the book so I didn't drag him with me) because I just LOVE that garden overall view.

I saw the movie a couple nights ago and LOVED It!

However, I did not read the book first but now I want to read it more than I did before!

It was really good and I had to stop myself from weeping loud sobs in the theatre!

I understand getting upset over changed endings - I heard that they changed the ending of my sisters keeper too so I havnt seen that movie and will probably wait for it to come out on DVD!

i looved the movie but i never read the book.  i have never cried so hard in my whole life.  my fiance humored me me and we saw it on our 3 year (dating) anniversary.  the whole theater was in tears and sobbing.  it felt so silly to be crying as one big group like that, i accidentally giggled and got some stares.
