There are a ton of timelines online for when you should start doing different wedding related things (ie. booking a DJ, dress shopping, etc.) They seem to vary widely! Just wondering if anyone has a link to one that is close to the most realistic period of time in which things should be done? Thanks!

I think what you need to do is find out how far in advance vendors in your area are booking. Some of my vendors are booked into 2013 so I wanted to get them under contract right away. Even though all the timelines say I don’t need start booking until December 2011 for my October 2012 wedding, I feel more comfortable knowing that I got the vendors I wanted and perhaps for a better price.
The website I’ve been using WeddingWire and I like it alot. I think I will start to use the timelines for the smaller details as we get closer to the wedding. You can also edit their time-line and add to it. This has been helpful for me to set reminders of when I want things done by and not just industry standards.

Hmm, thanks for the tip LauraCYW! I will check that out. I’m getting married in June 2012. I already have the ceremony and reception venues booked, as well as the photographer. I am unsure of how long to wait in regards to an officiant, DJ, and florist. I should probably get on it soon…
