We have our venue for 9 hours, which includes the ceremony time (all happening at the same location). We currently have it from 3:30-midnight, and I wanted the ceremony to start right at 4. Cermony will be an hour long, then an hour and a half for photos. That puts dinner at 6:30/7.
Does that seem too late for dinner? Should we add an extra hour or two and start the ceremony earlier in the day? We’re having a semi formal event so I’d like to keep it as close to the evening as possible, is a 3:00 start a weird time for a semi formal event?
Timeline in my head:
4:00 Ceremony Start time
5:00 Cermony End time
5:00-6:30 Photos for Bridal party/Cocktails, photobooth, entertainment for guests.
6:30 introductions/first dance
6:35 Prayer and first dance.
6:40 Food served, with speeches, slide show and other things intermingled in dinner.
7:40 Cake cut, and dessert table open
8:00 Dancing starts
8:30 Bouquet toss and garter toss
Dance the night away
11:00 Food truck comes.
This is super rough since I have till July, but I’m confirming our hours with our venue and i just wanted some advice on how the time line sounded.

I should really stop doing all my planning/thinking at 2:00 in the morning on a Thursday when no one else is around haha. I’ll bump my own thread in the morning I guess!

@DelilahDiamond: I think it all sounds great as long as you offer some food at cocktail hour!

@Holly77: THank you! yep there will be a selection of snacky food during cocktail hour- a whack load of cheeses, fruits, roasted veggies, and then beef, chicken or veggie skewers. Nothing huge or filling but enough to tide people over while we’re taking photos!

@DelilahDiamond: well that all sounds fantastic so no need to stress:)))

Just gonna bump this to get more opinions. Should I add another hour and move my ceremony an hour earlier? Or is my timeline ok?

Your timeline is almost identical to ours with the exception that we are only having a 30 min ceremony so dinner will start at 6:15. i think its perfect.

@DelilahDiamond: It sounds fine.
I had a 4pm ceremony, cocktail hour from 4.45pm – 6pm then dinner served at 7.30pm. Everyone was satisfied.
I did have lots of finger foods and alcohol during the cocktail hour.

my ceremony starts at 6:30, we have cocktail hour at 7 and dinner will be around 8:30.
i rarely eat dinner at 6:30 on a weekday, usually it is around 7. your guests will be fine.
