My fiance & I will be getting married on a Friday night of August next year. Just for a bit of background info, our ceremony starts at 6 pm, and we are having the ceremony/reception at the same place (getting married outdoors, and reception will be inside). We have booked our photographer and venue, and we will have the venue from 6pm-1130 pm.
I was just wondering, for those who did have a Friday wedding or will be having one, what was your timeline like? I’m having a hard time deciding whether I should have our photographer for 6 or 8 hours, and whether my fiance & I should do a “first look” and pictures BEFORE the ceremony. The wedding coordinator at our venue recommended it, because since our ceremony is starting on the later side, it would be better to take pictures before, instead of being outside until 730 taking pictures while our guests are waiting inside. And if we do the first look along with the pictures with the BM’s and GM’s, what time would I need the photographer to get there? I don’t want to pay more money for the 8 hours if I don’t need to, but I’m not sure if the 6 hours will be enough time.
What would you do? I know I have a long ways away to worry about this stuff, but I’m a worrier 😉

Ohhh Ohhh me!!!! Yaayy, Friday!!! My big day is 7/22/11. Here’s my first attempt at a timeline….
7:00pm: Ceremony Begins
7:30 pm: Ceremony Ends, Cocktail Hour Begins
We will use this time to take formal photographs while our guests enjoy cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres. (not much time is needed here for formal pics((20 mins)). we aren’t having a wedding party and I don’t want many posed pics. just me and FI; FI and his fam; me and my fam; me, FI, and our daughter; and a few of FI and I outside)
7:50 pm: Bride and Groom are announced and re-enter the reception area after formal pics. We’ll enjoy a couple cocktails and hor’dourves.
8 pm: Dinner…An announcement will be made that the buffet is open.
8:30 pm Welcome and Speeches During dinner. Hopefully all guests are seated and have started to dine.
9:00 pm Dance floor is open (huge surprise for my now HUBBY and all my guests. hope I can pull it off!!!)
9:30 pm Cake Cutting and dessert. Champagne Toast will also happen here.
9:45 pm Garter toss and Bride and Groom shoe game (thanks fellow WBC bride “JustAboutWright”!!!) while guests have cake and desserts
10 pm Dance floor is re-open
10:45 pm Last call at the bar (for the safety of my guests. no drinking and driving!!)
12 am Wedding ends…HONEYMOON STARTS (Tee hee)!!!!

@katieebee: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! We are also having a Friday wedding and I have been toiling over the timeline! I wasn’t sure if 8:00 was too late to serve dinner, but I suppose if folks know ahead of time that dinner will be late they can hopefully eat a late lunch. I feel better now!

Our Friday evening wedding timeline….
3:00-3:30 – Grooms family pics
3:30-3:45 – Bride getting ready pics
3:45-4:15 – Brides family pics
4:15-4:45 – First Look (private)
4:45-5:15 – All bridal party and immediate families pics
5:15-5:30 – Drink a mimosa and try not to panic!
5:30-5:45 – Ceremony (ceremony space is booked until 6 but our ceremony won’t last that long)
5:45-6:00 – Receiving Line
6:00-7:00 – Extended family pics (should only last 15 mins or so) and Cocktail hour
7:00-7:15 – BP entrance and first dance
7:15-8:00 – Dinner
8:00-8:30 – Dancing
8:30-9:00 – Cake cutting, parent dance & anniversary dance
9:00-11:00 – Partay!
As you can tell, I’m a little nutty when it comes to timelines. Every minute needs to be accounted for even though I’m sure some things will run short/long.
@weddingdiva-in-training: The shoe game is pretty simple. Basically the bride and groom sit back to back holding one of each shoe. Someone will ask questions and the B&G will raise the shoe of the person who they think the question best applies to. Like… “who will take out the garbage?” for example. It seems like a lot of couples do this game instead of the bouquet/garter toss.

I am also getting married on a Friday evening with the ceremony starting at 6pm. What time is everyone going to start getting ready for their Friday night wedding? I am wondering what time to book hair and makeup!
