Fiance and I are having a little debate- maybe you can help! Fiance thinks it is ok to wait until three months prior to our wedding to purchase three Jr. Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses. I like to plan, and cannot conceive of waiting until so close to the wedding. However, I understand that the girls will grow between when I want to purchase the dresses (one year prior), but think purchasing one size bigger will be just fine. Issue is that one of the Jr. BM’s is my soon to be step daughter who only visits us once a year (during her summer vacay for two weeks). I guess the compromise is having her mother fit her at the local Davids’ Bridal, but I can’t be sure that she want to drive her daughter to Davids at all. Any advice? 🙂

Well I was shopping for my Junior bridesmaids today and my wedding is about 8 months away 🙂 The alterations department at Davids told me they can take a dress in two sizes without altering the look and quality. I chose to order the dresses early because they said to allow 12 weeks for special orders. Then once you add in some time for possible adjustments, you could be looking at close to 3 and a half months at best. I think it would be better to order ahead also!

I would order them at the last possible moment (without incurring rush fees). We ordered my sister’s (JBM) at the same time as the other maids. According to the size chart, she was between sizes so we ordered up. The dress fit her pretty well but still needed some alterations (length and bust). I think at different ages people grow at different rates.

How old are these girls? It cannot be guarnteed that they will grow but it is definately a possibility. I would say waiting until 3 months out would scare me too. I think 6-9 months would be better. Ask your Fiance if he thinks your step daughters mother would be willing to make a drive such as that. Is it very far from her? If she can great. Have her take her daughter in. If not, have her fitted and order it a size up.
