The standard rule of thumb is to mail invitations 6-8 weeks before the wedding. Hope that helps.

Hello everyone,
I'm getting married September 6 and I'm just wondering what the rule of thumb is for when to mail out invitations. All of our hotel blocks get released 30 days prior to the wedding, so I definitely need to get them out before then, but am not sure when would be the best time. When did everyone else do it or are you going to do it?
Thanks!
And also, in case anyone wasn't aware of it, there is going to be another postage increase May 12 I believe. http://www.usps.com/prices/
