Hi all. I’m new to this planning and new to this site.
Our wedding date is going to be 7/29/2016 which is a Friday.
We are planning to be married and have our reception at the same location, Marjeane Caterers in Lansdale, PA.
Including vendors, we will have a maximum of 75 guests. We have 15 children maximum attending, ages 2 to 15.
My dilemma is that while our reception is 5 hours, we only have a 1/2 hour for the ceremony.
That being said, the FH has said he would prefer our reception be from 6-11pm and our ceremony at 4:00 or 4:30pm.
Is that too late considering the kids will be in attendance?
Also please keep in mind that the gap is so long since we do NOT want a first look, photo wise.
Any ideas or samples of your own timelines from like wake-up to end of reception? How much time should I allot for photos and getting ready, etc?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

rashidah824: Congratulations! I don’t think the reception is too late. Kids can stay up a little late for such a special occasion, or if it’s that big a deal, parents can head out a little bit early leaving the partiers to finish out the night. That gap is pretty bad though. I’ve been to one wedding with a 1.5 hr gap and it was extremely tedious. Will there at least be a cocktail hour? If you could keep your pictures to an hour and will be hosting guests during that time, that should be ok. If you’re leaving them waiting for an hour and a half with no hospitality, that’s not good. I’m sure someone will be along shortly with a detailed timeline that should be helpful. Have fun!!

Daisy_Mae: Thank You! 🙂 lol I actually thought that that time would be good for any photos to be taken. maybe shorten it to an hour, even though i’m not doing a first look? As far as time our only other choice was to have ceremony 3:30pm and reception 5-10pm. As far as refreshments, is the cocktail hour included in a reception package ? if not then there’s always that for the guests. Argh, idk. I’m honestly glad i’m planning this in advance for these reasons.

Fun venue! I was just at a wedding there in October. The wedding was at 430 and reception 530-1030, it was absolutely fine with an hour in between but any longer would have been too long. The guests have to leave the reception area as they change it from ceremony to reception, so all the guests went outside and watched pictures kind of waiting for cocktail hour to start. Do what’s best for you, people can take kids home early but I’d suggest 530-1030 🙂
