We're thinking of having our wedding on a Friday evening, ceremony perhaps starting at 8PM and cocktail reception starting at 9PM. We don't want a dinner, we just want to party the night away. We will just have appetizer/snack type food set out for people to nibble on as they desire (they'll be warned on the invites).
I haven't really been to many cocktail receptions to understand how a traditional reception timeline would fit into it. Things like first/family dances, speeches, bouquet toss, etc. I want to have those typical things but I also want things to run smoothly and everyone to dance.
If you had a cocktail reception or have been to some, how did traditional reception events fit into it?
