- Wedding: September 2011
I’m thinking about timing.
We have to be out of our church by 5:00 (like, done pictures and out). So I’m thinking 3:00 or 3:30 for the ceremony. But I already planned for the reception/cocktail hour to start at 6:00. One of the caterers I talked to was assuming that we’d have the wedding at 4:30 or 5:00 and miss the cocktail hour. She was saying that she would not be able to allow anyone into the reception place until 6:00, even if it was raining (it’s semi-outdoor, a former bumper car pavilion) I feel like many of the weddings I’ve been to have time between, but will guests expect them closer? will they be annoyed by the down time?
I’m also wondering how long others’ receptions are going to be, and what time they will end. I have been to a few friends’ weddings, but I’ve never really remarked what time they ended. I think the most recent one ended at midnight, with a start at 6 for the cocktail hour. Another ended at 11:00. My caterers were going with a 4 hour reception, mostly to meet my budget… so mine would be 6-10. I think I’m going to add an extra hour for 5. I love to dance and I feel like with 4 hours there would only be an hour of dancing! just wondering what is more average.
