We’re getting married next year, and we’ve been together almost 10 years. We both want kids but can’t quite figure out when the time will be “right.” I’m 26 and he’s 30. I’ve had several health issues that have come up within the past two years and along with other issues, I’ve been diagnosed with PCOS and endometriosis…add to that my bicornuate and tilted uterus. I’ve had four abdominal surgeries ( appendix, small bowel resection, incisional hernia repair…) which have left me with a lot of scar tissue that is causing me pain in my lower abdominal area but surgery may just make that worse. I’m also anemic which Im taking tons of iron daily for but I’m also on my birth control nonstop which prevents me from having a period/letting cysts develop.
So I guess my question is….when is the “right” time to ttc? I feel like the longer we wait the worse our chances will be since the scar tissue will likely get worse, along with the endometriosis. Experiencing pregnancy and childbirth is extremely important to me..I would love to experience it at least once but we are open to the possibility of adoption. My fiance would like me to stop taking my birth control and start trying now but I’m really worried about the pain I have from cysts that develop when I’m not on it.
Has anyone been through this? I dont know what to do. 🙁 Its frustrating!

I feel your pain– quite literally– This is something that I’ve struggled with a lot… I fully expect TTC to be far more painful than anything during pregnancy or labor. Personally, I’d say the sooner the better, as for the cysts and things– start tracking your ovulation ASAP and I’ll pray that you and your FI are blessed with a child quickly.
Who knows, you might get lucky like a friend of mine who is epileptic– it took them 3 years of blanacing and reducingher meds before they could TTC, since she couldn’t take any anti-seizure meds while preggo. When she went into her first appointment after they TTC, she was exactly 6 weeks along. The doc estimates that theyprobably concieved within 3 days of trying.

@juliette.eliza: Thank you! I feel like the sooner, the better is the best route as well..just nervous about the pain from cysts. The cysts rupturing causes the worst pain ever 🙁 Since we arent married yet, I really dont want to hear about having a baby before marriage from some family members…I shouldnt care what others think but that does weigh on my mind as well. I just had an appointment with my gyno to discuss a hemorrhagic cyst I have on my right ovary but I’m planning to go back to discuss going off my pill to start ttc. The thought of being in pain just terrifies me…
