They collect a fee for their services and then don't really have that much else to do with the rest of the process (in my experience), so I don't think it's necessary. Maybe a thank you card if you really want to.
It would probably be a little weird. I have never gotten cash tips as either a primary or second shooter...but I have had clients send me thank you cards or small gifts which is super nice.
When I asked my planner about tipping she said just to tip my DJ, Blackjack dealer and makeup/hair artist... That's it, I was so relieved! But I think a nice thank you card and maybe a small gift card would be nice :)

I plan on sending a "thank you" gift basket to my photographer instead of giving him cash tip at the wedding. But how about the 2nd shooter? Do I need to tip him/her at the wedding? Would it be weird to tip the 2nd shooter, but not the main photographer? (Although I'm sending him a nice gift afterward, he doesn't know that...)
