Does the photographer own their own studio? Or is your photographer an employee (but not owner)?
If the photographer is the owner then you aren't required to tip.
I always tell my clients that while a tip is alway appreciated it is never required. If you feel your photographer went above and beyond, and its in your budget, by all means tip. Feelings will not be hurt if you choose not to tip however. A great way to show your appreciation is to purchase your albums and prints through your photographer; This shows them that you care as much about their images as they do, and want to show them off in the highest quality possible. Also, referring other couples to your photographer is always the ultimate compliment.
Plus we always love thank you letters :)
I am a photographer and own the business, so tipping is not expected. When brides tip, I sometimes send them a little gift to say thank you! I also put that tip money towards making other brides' weddings great--like buying a special piece of gear or lights that are more of a want than a need.
We tipped the photographer. In retrospect I wish we didn't tip since it took 5 months for her to get us our disc.
I was wondering this exact question.
Many told me for what I'm being charged and receiving only a cd from a person who owns business then a tip isn't needed.

What is the etiquette wrt tipping a photographer? Is it customary, or is the package price all I should expect to pay? Thanks!
