I'm a wedding/engagement photographer, a recent bride, and soon to be maid of honor, and I've never tipped or been tipped.
While it isn't necessary to tip him at all, it would be appreciated since he offered it to you free.
yeah you should. he offered it for free to you. it's good karma and it will be remembered when he shoots your wedding.
Does he own his own business? If so, I wouldn't tip - but I would offer to be a reference/write a nice TY!
Or, if you really want to give something - instead of cash, which just seems a little odd to me 
, a giftcard to starbucks or a local restaurant is a nice gesture!
I don't think you need to tip. It's included in the package. I doubt any photographer expects a tip for doing the job you paid them for.
I'm also a photographer and I've never be tipped with cash, but I have received gift cards and such. I agree that tipping is not necessary, but if he/she did an exceptional job, then a small gesture is fine and I'm sure will be appreciated.
i don't that tipping is necessary even if he included this part of the service at no extra cost in your package. a thank you would be nice and maybe after the wedding if you are really happy with the photos a thank you with a gift card. but a tip is necessary in the case.
Not at all necessary but it always makes me feel even more eager to shoot as good as I possibly can for the couple :)

As a photographer myself, I think writing something super nice about your photographer on one of these message boards is worth a lot more! Making a couple happy, and them telling others about us is the best!

We have our engagement photo session coming up soon. Our photographer threw it into our wedding package for free (normally $400) -- should we tip him? I'm clueless about this stuff. thanks.
