I’m getting married in 2 weeks on a Sunday. The hair salon we are using for hair and make-up doesn’t open until 1pm on Sunday’s, and we need to go in the morning.
So, since they “aren’t open yet”, they are hiking up the prices and charging us a freelance price.
I know you should techincally tip – but I’m having a hard time wanting to do that because I think it’s crap that we are going 4 hours before they open and they raised the prices for everything between $25-50.
To tip or not to tip, that is the question. And if so – what %, because 20% on top is a bit much to me.

20% is pretty much expected. Just build it into your price or find another location.

I think you still have to tip for sure…especially since you are going in 4 whole hours before they open. That means they are probably going in even earlier to have everything ready.
They could have just told you no but someone is rearranging their life to accomodate you. They are adjusting their schedules, their family’s schedules, extending their day, etc to do something for you. A tip is the least you can do.

I’m probably going to end up doing something similar to this too. my hair salon isn’t normally open on sundays. the owner gave me my first haircut many moons ago, so i’m hoping she won’t jack up prices on us. good to know that some places do this! i’ll definitely be sure to ask her about it while i’m in town this june.
as for your situation, i would tip, but probably more along the lines of 15% good luck!
