Belissimo is their store brand, and it is fused, and not very good.

Try looking at the Black Lapel, which is an online Made to Measure operation – from everything I’ve heard, it’s great value.  They cost about $550, can be shipped anywhere, you have total controls over the details of the suit, and a similar quality suit from Tip Top would cost $1000+.  Tip Top is kind of like Ikea – their inexpensive stuff is good, if you can’t afford more, but once you get into their higher quality stuff, it’s not the best value around by any stretch.

For a suit that’s like a Tuxedo, I would reccomend a navy blue, midnight blue, or charcoal grey (toward the darker end), single breasted, one-button, peak lapel jacket.  Peak lapels don’t do well under 3.5″ wide, and can do well to go a wider, even.  You can customize all of those details with Black Lapel (which will give you a much better suit than other online MtM options, from what I’ve read in reviews), and you won’t find anything of the kind from Tip Top.

If you can afford to get it done at a reputable local tailor, I would probably go that route.  Black Lapel is a great option if you want a made to measure suit for off the rack prices.

I don’t know what the German term would be for this, but here those are called suit separates.  I think Made to Measure is the best option for him to get the suit he wants, and can be had for reasonable prices, comparable to buying ready-to-wear.
