I am sooo confused, can anyone shed some light please.
so custom has it that you tip 20% of the food bill to the servers…so for a $2000 catering fee I would tip a total of $400 and divide that up among the 3 servers?
That seems like a a big tip for 3 servers at a buffet style wedding…and they are already making $15 an hour. now don’t get me wrong, I payed my way through school serving tables so I know all about the glories/horrors of living off of tips.
It is buffet style, guest will be removing their own rubbish from the tables, so basically the servers are just making sure the food trays are full for the 4 hours…really $200 seems like a lot of money for 4 hours of work. I could see if it was a 4 course meal but it isn’t..is 20% still necessary? oh…and the servers will be joining the wedding festivities after the meal is served (aka…drinking the alcohol)
any suggestions on how you would handle this one?
