We had a friend marry us and we wanted to do something for her, but didn't want it to just be a tip like we did with other vendors. Instead of a cash tip, we decided on a gift--a gift card to a great restaurant in town for our friend and her partner.
I wouldn't give him a tip like a normal vendor. Maybe a gift card or a little present for his time but that's it.
my SIL did our hair and I gave her a gift card for a massage....it feels weird to "tip" friends and family. Plus I know she'd likely not take cash from me but would probably have no problem accepting a gift card =]

My FBIL is our officiant for the ceremony and half way acting like a best man, even though he's not doing anything besides marrying us. We've bought him a new suit and shirt plus another gift. Now FI is talking about tipping him for helping. We are giving others gifts for helping out but not tipping them.
I was a little confused and thought I would get everyone's opinion because I feel it's too much.
