i always tip the groomer. it's not required if they're the shop owner, but it's a nice gesture (and they are risking really sharp claws!). $10 would be fine.
We pay $75 4x per year for similar service for our cats. We always tip them $20 because they do a great job and it is hard to find a place that does cats. In your case I think a $10 tip is enough.
My mom is a groomer who owns her own shop, and I think just about everyone tips her (15-20%). Her regulars also usually give Christmas bonuses, just like a hair dresser. I don't think she in any way expects it, but I know she appreciates it greatly. Especially when it comes to bathing cats!
We take our dog to a chain groomer (Petsmart), and we tip 20%.
If she owns her own business, it's not required, but definitely nice :) I probably would tip her just because I can't imagine bathing cats would be easy! Mine would fight back, haha.
Awesome, thanks! $10 it is...there are 3 or 4 places nearby that do cats but they want $70 apiece (Petco wanted $67, so the fact that this lady wants $45? Yeah. ) and not near as close! If this works out really well, i'll definitely consider coming back and doing it every few months.
@blueshoes2, my cats literally just sit there and meow pitifully, haha. I imagine they'll freak when she gets near them with an electric razor, though.
I take my dog every 6ish weeks to a lady who owns her own shop and does it out of her house. She charges $70 but I give her $80...now I feel like I should be giving her more!
I always tipped the groomer who cuts our cat's nails (my cat has thumbs so it's hard for us to do it). Then we moved and started going to an animal hospital where a technician would do it. I offered her a tip and I think offended her. She refused to take it (nicely I must say) I felt bad but now I know tips are more for groomers and not technicians at animal hospitals.

Beekeeper
Don't laugh. I found a place that grooms persian cats here in St. Louis, about 10 minutes from my house. The lady said she bathes/dries them and gives them "puppy cuts" and trims a lot of fur (it gets caught in their mouths) and shaves under the armpits and around the privates (prime areas for poop nuggets and fur mats) and cleans their ears and trims the extra fuzz. She's charging $45 for each of them and she owns the shop. On Saturdays, she and another lady are there, and that's when she prefers to do cats.
So, do you tip groomers? Especially owners? How does that work? I've NEVER had my cats groomed (I always bathe them myself and they tolerate it fine) before but they're starting to hide when they see me with the brush. And they're kinda stinky, always getting fur in their mouths, etc. Winter coat brings on a whole new meaning for these two.
Gratuitous cat photo included!
I can't wait for dry, fluffy, pretty smelling kittehs!
