Sorry if this is somewhere else and I am just missing it – but we are having a hair and make up artist and her team come onsite for my wedding to do everyone’s hair and make up. I offered to pay for either hair or make up for my brides maids and they would cover the other if they chose to get it done. I am sending out emails now to confirm what services they want before I send the contract in and to avoid any stress on the day of I am asking them to send me their portion before the wedding so it can all get paid together. Here is where I have a question – 1. Do you tip when they come to you? We are already paying a travel fee and the contract doesn’t state whether gratuity is or isn’t included. Prices are ~$65 each for hair and make up for the bridal party (more for the bride) in the Baltimore area. Some places I read if they come to you, you do not tip. Not sure if that is correct though. 2. If tipping is expected, should I ask them to send me their portion of the tip before the wedding as well or just let them know that the price doesn’t include the tip and that they can tip as they feel appropriate the day of?
Thanks in advance!

nittanybride14: I would assume travel fee is to cover their gas/travel expenses/time to get to your location, so personally I would tip on top of what you have already agreed to pay. I also think you should do tipping the day of after you receive the services (which is pretty standard when you go to a salon anyways).
Just let your BMs know about the pricing details and they will tip as they see fit.

I have heard if they own the business you do not need to tip. But I would probably tip anyway if they do a good job. As for the tip for your BM you should tip for what ever service you are paying for them. They can tip on the service they are paying for. I don’t think you need to remind people to tip.

You should probably tip them. The travel fee is just that – a travel fee. It’s not a tip. You should tip the day of, after they’ve done a good job providing the services you contracted them for.

Thanks all, I wasn’t thinking the travel fee was the tip, just including what we being paid out. I wasn’t very clear about that though.
I think for the business – the owner is one of the women coming, but since we have 8 people getting hair and make up done she is bring others with her. So that being said, would it be appropriate to tip the group and let them distribute or individually tip the different artists other than the owner? Sorry if I sound uninformed – I would rather ask on here and sound stupid than do the wrong thing the day of!
