It really varies – if he’s not charging you anything, I think $100-$150 is appropriate, or a nice card and gift.

I’ve read that for some places, there’s an expected donation of $200-300.  If your officiant is affiliated with a religious organization, ask them what is customary.   If you’re using a rent-a-reverend or a civil official, I’d check with other people who live nearby.  I’m guessing it ranges widely from Indiana to DC…

we’re giving $200 … I have a friend who’s paying $800, but he’s doing counseling with them too
