$10 of a $50 haircut is 20%. You can still give $10 or bum it to $12 so it equals to the usual.
I tip 20% on hair services, which would be a $12 tip for a $60 haircut.
i do 20%, unless i'm not happy with it. it's easy to figure out in my head, just more the decimal point over to find 10% and then double it, so on $60 i would make it 6.0x2=$12. does that make sense?
Ok thanks. And as for tips, do you usualy tip the hairdresser, or leave the tip at the counter when you pay? I usually leave it at the counter, but not sure if that is proper or not?
do they have the little envelopes for tips at the desk? places that have them, i leave the tip there, if not i give it to the stylist.
@Cash000: I ask the receptionist for a tip envelope when I pay, and I seal the tip in the envelope with the stylist's name on it. Or, I give it directly to the stylist, but she's usually on to another client by the time I'm paying.
Oh ok, I'll look for envelopes at the desk. I never noticed them! Thanks ladies!!
20%, but I've given a little more if I'm REALLY happy (like he did exactly what I wanted and it's even better than I imagined).
To answer your 2nd question- it really depends on the place. At a fancy salon, I've tipped in the small envelope they provide and put his name on it and that it's from me. I've also included it on my CC if I'm paying that way. Now, I just get it done at his salon in his house... so obviously I do it all at one time.
If you love it, $15. If its just okay, stick with $10 or $12.
I get my hair cut for $25 because the girl is an 'apprentice'... but she's been one for like 3 years and does the most awesome haircuts. I tip her $10.
My haircuts usually cost about $80 (which is why I go once or twice a year...) but I'll usually give my stylist $20 as a tip because my hair is super thick and takes hours to cut and style. I'd say minimum 20% though.
@Cash000: If you want to make sure the stylist actually receives her tip, give it to her directly. I'd never leave it at the desk...lots of people have sticky fingers.

Usually when I get a haircut, I end up tipping about 10 dollars on about 50. Tomorrow I'm getting a cut that should run me about 60 dollars. Whats a god tip on that? I always feel like I'm not tipping enough.
