So, for NYC brides, we all know they charge this 22% “service charge” to venue contracts but that legally they are not permitted to call it a gratuity. It is however, clearly used to pay the staff for the night, or else, where does this money go. I have always known this, and some venues I looked at even told me straight out, on an off the record way, that this is what it was, and that tipping above this is discretionay and definitely not expected to be up to the same number you would tip had the service charge not existed.
So, my question to all NYC bees, who do you plan to tip at your venue? Maitre D? Catering Manager? Bridal Attendant (this I think yes but just throwing it in there)? What about your contact, the wedding coordinator at venue (this I also always planned yes but also throwing it in).
Also, what did or will you tip for these people, a flat tip or some percentage of food and bdv total?
