My mom has always done "15 minute pickups" You set a timer for 15 minutes and clean and pick up as hard as you can for the 15 minutes. Usually by the time the timer goes off you've picked up momentum and keep cleaning longer. If not, you'd be amazed at what you can get accomplished in just those 15 minutes!
I feel your pain though and hope others respond with good tips.
Music always motivtes me while cleaning. After you finish treat yourself with a bubble bath and a cupcake
I also dislike cleaning, especially after a long day at work. The one thing that usually gets me going is telling myself that if I can get the house picked up right when I get home, my Fiancé and I will be able to sit down and watch a show later. Kind of a Tit for Tat thing. I know we both feel more relaxed when the dishes are done and the clothing is picked off the floor. So, I get it done early so we can enjoy our favorite show when it comes on, or I can sit down and read a book with out thinking about everything that needs to be done. Bribing myself with junk food works also. J
OK when I have to clean the house I have to put on my Nine Inch Nails CD Pretty Hate Machine. Keeps my mind off the task that I am doing, now if I could just find a way to get motivate to put the laundry way. I don't mind the washing it is the folding and putting away that never seems to get done.
I like the 15 minute thing!! I think I'll have to start that tomorrow. I let it go way too far every day I think...
I'm always more in the mood on Saturdays or Sundays, when it's warm (ish) and I can open the windows and get the fresh air blowing through. I know that doesn't really help since it's so freaking cold out. (Will it ever get out of the 20's? Please?)
Besides that, I like listening to music and cleaning when it's really sunny out!
I will pick one room and just do that- like just one bathroom. I will have accomplished somthing- but its not too overwhelming.
The house is clean! Thank you for all the tips.
I created a playlist that was about 16 minutes long and played it twice.. then created a new one and played that twice. When an hour was up, I was almost done.
We open the window to our apartment to make it COLD and then work hard so that we can close the window. It's silly, but it makes us clean quickly on days we just don't want to clean.
In the summer, it works, too, because you're letting the heat in!
Hire a cleaning service. at least you have to pick up the clutter before they come. I've had one for about a year and it's a Godsend. My parents day the same thing.
I invite someone over. If I don't care about cleaning the whole place, I'll invite over my best friend who has seen this place in pure chaos, but still feel like I need to get the living room and bathroom in pretty good shape.

I'm getting ready to head home.. and the house is a mess.
What do you Bees do to get motivated to get it clean???
I have a hard time, I really dislike housework unless I get 'in the mood' for it
I think I'll throw on some music, but other than that, I'm at a loss.
