I have a PC. FI has a Macbook he bought in January 2010. I always use his macbook. It is so much easier. It is very easy to get used to using a Mac after a PC. We will be getting an Imac soon too.
I have a 13" MacBook from the current generation, and i would never go back to a PC. The main thing I love is the battery life. I can go unplugged for hours.
This is the first Mac I have ever owned, and I didn't find the transition hard at all. I have had no issues with it that were major, except my charger stopped working once, but because of the great Genius Bar/Mac Store AppleCare program, I got a new one the same day, for free. Way better than my HP, where I had to send my computer away for weeks at a time for tech service.
I have a mid-2008 MacBook Pro, and I've been fairly happy with it. I did convert from PC to Mac but have worked on both platforms at school, work, and friends' houses for quite awhile, so the transition was pretty seamless.
Mine has had a few problems, mostly bizarre ones, and I was glad to have AppleCare even though the people at the store always treat me like a second-class citizen (like when the Apple person will only talk to FI even though the computer is mine and I am present). So far almost every problem has been solved and covered under AppleCare...I have to bring it in for some weird wiring thing and I've been putting it off!
FI has always had Macs, and never had problems with them; I think I just got a lemon :-( I did some design work when I was making marketing materials in my last job, and having the Mac was awesome for InDesign and PhotoShop work, and it's been soooo much nicer to use with my digital camera, too. If you do anything with images, it's a definite improvement over a PC.
My husband bought me a 13" Macbook Air in October. I love it. I had an old ibook (from 2003) prior to the Air, and we have an iMac in the office so I've been using Macs for a while. I use a PC at work and I love Macs way more.
I have the smaller current MacBook and I LOVE it! I used PCs until high school and bought my first Mac for college... never had a problem, never had a virus. It only died because my cat spilled a big Coke on it :( My second one has a strange problem with the trackpad so make sure you get AppleCare just in case - shouldn't need to use it much though. And the transition is really easy after about the first day of figuring out where everything is :)
I have a 5-year old 15-inch Macbook. It has worked flawlessly, zero issues. To give you a comparison, I went through 2 Dell laptops in the 2.5 years before I decided to go Mac - never looking back. Love love love love my Mac. I'm buying an iMac next year after we move - time to get serious with my photography!
I have a macbook, iMac, and Mac Pro. DH insisted on bringing his 3 cruddy dell's into our marriage but he hardly uses them! On the rare occasion his laptop is downstairs and not mine... I get very close to chucking it out the window. I can't stand to use it. It's so sloooooow and clunky. Just to wake it up and start working takes forever. My Mac's are basically instantaneous to use.
@crayfish: I have had 2 laptops in the last 4 years, I am getting sick of replacing my computer every 2 years!!!!
Applecare costs about $250 which is a lot of money, but it has been TOTALLY worth it for me in the long run. They had to replace things a couple of times, and it's always been covered (so far).
The one thing I had to pay to replace was the power cord...our bunny chewed right through it! That time it was not Apple's fault, just Oliver's ;-)
@crayfish: I went through 2 PC laptops in 3 years... 3 computers total in 5! I've had my iMac since 2007 and macbook since early 2008. The only reason I bought the Mac Pro was because my photography needs outgrew the iMac and I wanted a huge tax write off :)
I have a MacBook from 2005 that I love, and it still runs like a charm. The only problem I had was when the battery stopped charging a couple years back. I took it to an Apple store, and even though the laptop was no longer under warranty they handed me a brand new battery--no questions asked. Previously I owned PC laptops (Sony, Dell), and for me there's just no comparison.
I have a MacBook pro. Wouldn't go back to PC for anything. Totally happy with it :)
Now I just need verizon to frigging get with it with the iphone so I can leave my BB behind.
I have a gift card for Best Buy, can you buy Applecare if you don't buy from the Apple store?
I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro and LOVE IT!!!! It is the best thing I have ever bought including my new car. I bought it last april for my bday. There are so many things that my Macbook makes super easy. I converted from a Dell and I will NEVER go back to a PC willingly. I have to use a PC at work and it aggravates my nerves. I would absolutely recommend a Mac to everyone! Oh you can look into the refurbished ones on the Apple website they are basically new and they are a few hundred less than the absolutely new ones and you can still get the applecare coverage.... sooo beautiful.
@TerraWellness- Ugh! Verizon! I want an iPhone so bad. I love my Droid, but it would be so much easier to have all Mac stuff. I have a MacBook and an iPad, and I just want the stupid iPhone but I love Verizon service too much to leave.
I have a MacBook that I bought in 2007. We also have a Mac desktop and FH has a MacBook Pro. I am a strong advocate for Macs!! Easy to use and no viruses. I would TOTALLY recommend a Mac!
I have a 15 inch (I think) MacBook Pro that I bought last year. I bought the fiance one, too. WE LOVE OUR MACS! Both my family and his family are Mac Users. I used to have a Dell and it would conveniently BREAK right before a huge paper was due; I then got a Toshiba and had to hold my breath every single time it booted up in fear that it would not start.
I use my Mac EVERY DAY and have even dropped it; it's fine. I love the programs it has - I am constantly editing photos and my fiance composes his own music with guitarband. Its the best. I highly recommend it!
By the way, I got a refurbished one and it works fine. My brother and the IT guy at my office recommended refurbished. I've had no problems and neither has the fiance. Also, you get a discount for being a student (on the new computers).
Well, after asking you guys and everyone I know, I decided to go out and buy a Mac today! I am typing on it now :) I feel pretty guilty because I am unemployed, but my old laptop kicked the bucket on me and I need a computer to job search. I feel better knowing I have something of high quality, plus I bought the service plan, so I am guaranteed 4 years!!
Now I just need to get used to using it... lol.
