- Wedding: November 2014
I recently posted my engagement photos in this original post here: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/engagement-photos-picture-heavy-day-night-look/#axzz2yz8hUjLy
After receiving such a great response and a helpful idea from fellow bee Xu, I decided share the things that helped me get the most out of our photos.
Let me start by saying, I am a perfectionist! But planning a wedding has taught me to just let somethings BE!
Choosing the photographer & theme:
The best decision I made was choosing our photographer Trevor Dayley (http://www.trevordayley.com). I knew right when my FI and I met him that he was perfect for us. My FI is not really into pictures. We are polar opposites in this regard because I am a photographer myself and I LOVE photos! What was most important was for me to find someone of quality that fit our style and someone that would make my FI feel comfortable in the photos and make it fun so for us.
Then I thought about a theme or style for the photos. Although there are so many engagement photos that I like, I wanted something different that spoke about who we were as people and a couple. We love fashion so I knew I wanted to do a more commercial look. We also love to laugh and enjoy each other and I wanted to capture that also. The final decision was to do a day and evening look. Day time, to capture our fun loving relationship, and evening to capture a more fashion look. Something you would see in a magazine.
I tried not to over think this part, and believe me… TRY NOT TO. I started with my fiance. He looks good in bright colors. I started taking notice of him more in the weeks prior and one day he wore a mint colored shirt that looked GREAT on him. So I just made a mental note that he should wear a similar color for our photos. I worked around what he was wearing. I went with a neutral color dress to not take away from him but picked a dress with a little sparkle for my own “pop” and added a necklace to compliment his shirt with simple shoes.
For our evening look, I knew we both looked good in black and that it would go well with the theme. My concern was that black on black at night may not show up well. To keep the distinction between the two of us, we chose to put him in a grey suit with only black underneath. For an added pop, we added one of his more flashy watches. For me, chunky necklace and dramatic shoes.
Day of preparation:
Because I stress about everything I knew I had to give myself TIME. So I took the entire day off work. Got my hair & makeup done that day early on. I highly suggest getting a little pampering just to help yourself relax. Your photos will turn out much better when you’re relaxed 🙂 Everything was going great but then just before I was preparing to get dressed it started POURING outside!!! I freaked. Our shoot was planned for outside and I felt like everthing was ruined. Luckily Trevor (our photographer) is a true professional and assured me that we could make it work. And that we may get even better pictures because of the rain! I felt confident in him so it helped me not to worry. The rain calmed down, it sprinkled and then cleared. I ended up loving this shot of us in this rain puddle
During the shoot
The best advice I can give is to ENJOY THE MOMENT!! I let go of the control and just trusted our photographer. This helped me to relax, enjoy the experience and be natural in from of the camera. Nothing felt forced. We just enjoyed it!
I hope my experience will help some of you! check out the rest of our photo favs in my original post 🙂
