The “correct” (i.e., traditional) way is Mrs. Herfirst Exhusband’slast.  So if her name is Jane Doe (with Doe being the name of her ex-husband), it would be Mrs. Jane Doe.  Mrs. John Doe would be his current wife.

How you should address the invitation is a different question.  I’d lean toward Ms., just because when I was divorced and had my ex-husband’s last name, I didn’t like using Mrs.  The truly “correct” answer is to ask her (or a friend or family member) how she’d like to be addressed.

EDIT:  Just never do what I once did — addressed an envelope to an older widowed lady as Mrs. Jane Doe.  I later learned she was not happy because it implied she and her husband had divorced.  She wanted to keep the traditional title of Mrs. John Doe…and he had been dead nearly 20 years.

Etiquette of formal titles / salutations would tell you to address her as Mrs. Herfirst Exhusband’slast.
