Hi beesknees- yes I saw it. That day my mother phoned saying tlc was running a marathon of wedding related episodes. So that night I managed to get my FI to sit with me to watch the shows. He was next to me watching the "protectors" and the "bargainers" at work and he was like: "That is ridiculous! Look how desperate those brides are! See how weddings are now just consumer driven? Just another example as to why we should elope!" The when he saw the brides purchasing their dress at steep discounted rates (I don't think he realised the point of the event till that moment despite my attempts to explain) He blurts out "You have to go!" insert my expression-----> :o/
The most hilarious show that day was Rock the Reception. Did you happen to see that? That is worth watching. I was so proud of the couple who coordinated the wardrobe removal! The new husband did a great job! And the poor thing looked so nervous before hand.
Gotta love TLC.
Did anyone watch the Made of Honour one? I didn't see the end.. I had to work the next morning and couldn't finish it! It was after Rock the reception. Doesn't TLC know brides can't sit up all night! *sigh* I love watching wedding shows.
AHHHHH - I thought Made of Honor was going to be a special about that movie with the same name....I'll have to set my tivo.
I tivo'd rock the reception- I'll watch it tonight
If I was running at Filenes- I would have run right back to the designer dresses. I saw some of the girls got Amsale dresses for like $500!!! GOODNESS.
Sparkles- I'd totally be a bargainer for you
Made of Honour was about a bride who couldn't choose her MOH between her 5 bridesmaids so she did different activities to see who knew her better. I wanna know who won!
I watched the marathon all day! Say Yes to the Dress was great. I've never seen it before...but it was really need to see all of the different dresses since I haven't started dress shopping yet.
Running of the Brides was hilarious! Beesknees, I also thought the strategizing and teams were so funny. I'm from DC and the bridal blogger on Washingtonian.com did a special on it earlier this year. The 2008 running of the brides for DC is in August- I just might go. I'm not necessarily looking for my dress this early (wedding is spring 2010), but I think it'd be great to experience.
ps. The older couple with the rip off dress was so cute. I loved the husband (Tod?). He was so nervous during the planning but completely hammed it up when they performed. My fiance and I are thinking about doing something like that since our bridal party will be young (21-24) and loves to dance! I'll let you know if we do it :)
Thanks beesknees! It's nice to know someone has my back! lol.
Wouldn't it be hilarious if the "Team" jersey were the Weddingbee t-shirts? I envision us wearing those with (mine or whoever elses) size on the shirt, and those cute headbands kids wear with the wobbling bees on top. That would be hilarious! But I don't know of a place in Cali that does this. Plus I am not aggressive enough to run, grab, hoard, bargain and cut in front of people...
But in a perfect situation? (not that I was envisioning this AT ALL silently in my head while my FH sat near me grumbling about the chaos that ensued on his television) Beesknees, you and I would have a pre-grab meeting to startegize and coordinate teams. Walkie-talkies a must. The team would be color coordinated wearing the weddingbee t-shirts. My alter ego would take over my passive natured self, running! grabbing a bunch of dresses- We would have a photographer to snap a few to view... Success will be acheived as that is the OBJECTIVE and after everything was said and done??? Happy hour.
and perhaps a trip to the massage parlor. Ok & the manicurist to repair any broken nails.
I loved Running of the Brides! The teams were so cute, especially the woman who had her dance students with her.
As for Made of Honour - UGH. I thought it was vile, but I also couldn't make myself change the channel.
MissStargazerLily - The little sister won, but IMHO, she shouldn't have.
Ahh. I kind of figured she would. I missed the lie detector part.. I needed sleep! I bet they'll replay it over and over during wedding season.
MissStargazerLily: The lie detector is why I didn't think the sister should win. She lied on almost every question, and it basically came out that she thinks that she is prettier, smarter, had flirted with the groom, and didn't think the marriage would last among other things. Not exactly what I would want in a Maid of Honor.
Sparkles:
I think you are soooooo on to something with the team weddingbee and different colored shirts for the multiple bee teams. Maybe when the Filenes in different areas has their "running" girls can post Help wanted ads here on the boards for team mates. hehe so fricking cute! if ONLY there was Filenes in Florida
Beesknees- LOL.
those poor cities wouldn't know what hit them!!! "Oh no... Here comes Team WeddingBee!" and it's a whole swarm of helpers... <insert cracking up>. Maybe we are onto something. I am holding you to it-- if I see one here in SoCal I'll be the first to post for runners and expect you to be the bargainer... <giggling>. Local boards watch out! There might be a new movement coming your way!

Did anyone watch the special on The learning channel - "running of the brides"?
It was so cute and exhausting just to watch. I had NO IDEA there was so much strategy to working the filenes basement sale! who knew! "protectors" "bargainers" and the signs people made! Hysterical. I loved it. While I certainly think that would be way to much pressure for me to have picked out a gown, it certainly would be fun to be on someones "team"
