Sorry in advance if this post is TMI for you guys, but I’d love some advice!
i was taking Loestrin 24 for about 6 months when in November I was silly and decided to disrupt the almighty hormonal balance and try Lo Loestrin (lower dose hormones). Well, my body HATED that (literally was a crying mess everyday) so I quickly switched back to Loestrin regular after consulting my gyno, which I’ve had minimal side effects with. Everything should be good in the hood, right?
Negativo, my friends. I am now so constipated and bloated that I am about to tear my hair out. My breasts literally feel as if they will fall off; I am a day from the “off week” of pills and will be getting my period so I know a lot of it is that, but my final dress fitting is Friday and I am gonna have to grease myself up with Crisco to slide myself into that dreaded cylinder of satin now. I didn’t think switching back would kill my system, but here we are. And less than 2 months from my wedding!
I work out 5 days a week and drink water, eat healthily etc so this has really just made me mad in general. The stomach pains are horrendous and just want some relief. I know I will most likely be absolved of my hormonal crimes after Aunt Flo but does anyone have some remedies that may help?

I would stop taking the pill myself.

@BeignetBride: This happened to me when I tried the Pill– horrible bloating, gas, constipation and discomfort. I gave up on it after 2 weeks, it made me feel so horrible. I still have some bowel issues, 3 months later. . . sorry, not to scare you, but I’d say the best thing for you to do would be get off the pills now!
Have you looked into the hormone-free copper IUD?
One thing that helped me for a while, after getting off the pills, was taking Black Cohosh herb (tincture or liquid-containing capsules). It’s estrogenic, so maybe not a good idea while you’re on the pills still, but it helped while I was figuring out what to do. I now go to an acupuncturist who also does Chinese herbal medicine and that has helped some, though not as much as I would like.

I was on Yasmin for 8 years. Was fine, but then had some bad side effects and was off the pill for a year. I’m back on for various reasons (mainly that with the nature of my job I can’t risk getting pregnant at the moment – we use 2 forms of BC). I HATE hormones and want to get off ASAP.
I tried senna leaf tea and tha helped a ton. I will have to check out the herb and see if that works as well.

Try taking some good probiotics and eating more things like non sweetened natural yoghurt. The pill can upset your digestive balance in the gut and kill of good bacteria….hence the bloating and constipation. In australia they sell a fermented probiotic drink called Passiflora. I had similiar problems to yours when I started on the pill….since I started with the probiotics I haven’t had the same problems.
hope this helps.

I second probiotics! I have had some stomach issues over the last year and probiotics/fiber supplements really helped. Maybe it will bring some relief while your body adjusts to being on the pill 🙂
I saw a specialist and they recommended the probiotics/fiber, I didn’t think it would make that big of a difference, but when I finally it tried it, it helped *so* much! Take a pill, yogurt/kefir has probiotics but not nearly as many as the pills.

Try drinking dandelion root tea, it will help you go to the bathroom and majorly helps with bloating! I just got off the pill a couple months before the wedding, I’ve had some effects (mood swings and a little break out) but I do feel better just being off the pill.
