I purchased a dress last month for my wedding coming up this May. When I initially went in, I had this idea that I would go in looking for a lace gown with buttons down the back. There was one specific dress that I wanted to try, but sadly, this location did not have it. After trying on quite a few dresses, I settled on this dress:
As much as I like my dress, it was never anything I imagined myself purchasing. It has very little lace, and no buttons. After a month of having my dress, I am starting to think about looking for a new dress if I can’t figure out a way to make myself satisfied with this specific dress. The thing I am most disapointed in is the lack of buttons. I just love the classic look of them. So my question is… should I add buttons to the back of my dress or do you think it will take away from the simplicity of the design? I have played around with buttons going from the top down to the sash, but can’t decide if it will look okay. PLEASE HELP!

I was against buttons but only cause I’m wearing my hair down and didn’t want it tangled.
But I LOVE the button look, Covered buttons would like if your able to get matterial that matches the same, they can be easily added. They can add loops holes and cover the zipper part. Or you can do it without loops and just have them there simply for looks.
Buttons are simple enough to add but can add up just to purchase buttons I’m uncertain if you have someone else to put them on or you do it yourself. Either way I thinking adding them wouldn’t alter the dress except to add to it.
If you like everything else then just add it. If you have other issues then maybe you should look for another.
In my humble opion,

The dress you were originally looking for sounds a lot like the dress I ordered.
I think buttons would be cute on your dress. With a simple dress like that, you could pair it with a really detailed veil- maybe one with lace will start to match your original vision

@leahgwarner: I vote add buttons! I’m doing the same. I think they add such a sweet touch.

@leahgwarner: I say go for it, I think buttons make a dress look very sophisticated! If you are having trouble finding covered buttons (just assuming you want some, haha) that match your fabric you could also try adding sparkly or pearl buttons.

@leahgwarner: add the buttons – or maybe look for a new used dress? The dress you bought looks nothing like the dream dress you were describing…?
I almost never tell bees to go with different dresses than ones they already purchased but I went through 8 dresses total in my search – purchased as samples in store and on ebay & etc, – you can find an affordable dress with all your specifications if you keep trying.
If not, I say start to look for ways to customize your ensemble like you said with buttons and maybe touches of lace with your veil or a bolero?
My only hesitation with the buttons is tha the zipper goes long into the skirt portion and buttons might fall a little wonky from being tight to your back on the bodice and then trail down into the flowy skirt.

I think buttons running down the length of the zipper would look really nice on this dress!
