To be honest, I love the dress as it is. It is gorgeous!
But if you aren't happy I would talk to an experienced seamstress and she would be able to tell you how the dress would look w/o the bubble hem.
I am not a big fan of bubble hems, so I think you should alter it. Your skirt will still be full with a straight hem. Beautiful dress too! :)
I think the bubble hem is lovely, but talk to a seamstress if you really don't like it.
I'm not a fan of the bubble myself but I think this one will look great either way. If it can be done and keep the look I'd lose it but I wouldn't worry too much if it couldn't be done.
I might be a little biased (I had a bubble hem) but I LOVE it!
I think it adds more interest to the gown (which is gorgeous BTW!)
I think that it would look great with a clean hem, but if you feel like it won't be quite as full after you take out the bubble hem, you could always add more crinoline underneath.
I usually don't like bubble hems but I find them VERY romantic on long dresses. I just love it on that dress. I think it adds a softness
I love the bubble hem. I would keep it. I have never been to a wedding where the bride has a bubble hem dress so I think it is unique. I have a bubble hem so I may be a little biased.
I think clean lines are better...I'm not a fan of the bubble hem...I think its very "in" right now, but a few years from now I don't think people will be in to them as much
I don't normally like bubble hems, but on yours it's absolutely beautiful!
I really like the bubble hem. I love your dress and it looks perfect the way it is. Keep the bubble!
That's a gorgeous dress and the bubble hem creates the lines on the bottom half that help it.
I think the bubble hem really completes the overall look of the dress - keep it!
I love the movement of a long bubble hem- it's just so dreamy, I always feel like it looks more "floaty" than a straight hem!
I like the bubble, but definitely talk to a seamstress. Maybe it won't work well to change the hem and the decision will be made for you :)
That bubble hem is so pretty! I love it a lot, but that dress is so gorgeous that you really cannot go wrong no matter what you do to the bottom =)
I don't usually like bubble hems... but I love your bubble hem. It is perfect for your dress :)
My dress is a bubble hem and I love it. My BM's even have a bubble hem on their dress!
I voted to keep the bubble hem b/c I'm thinking the designer probably liked the bubble hem on your dress. It's beautiful!!!
I really like the bubble hem and think that it will alter the integrity of the gown if you were to change it, especially since it doesn't seem like you totally dislike it. It is a gorgeous gown by the way!!!!
I think it'll look georgous either way. I'm a clean line person myself though.
Are you a curvy girl? If so NO bubble. I love the look but as a 6 with a fuller chest and hips the bubble always gives me a little too much bulk. It is very pretty though. If you rock it, go for it!
Thanks everyone for your responses! This board is definitley more frequented than the bridesmaids board. I posted something there and only got around 25 responses. I am still unsure what to do. I think i need to see what the seamstress says first. Since i bought a sample it is way to long (i'm only 5'3). So i don't know how expensive it is to get rid of the bubble hem or keep it.
A side note is I wandered in david's bridal to check out BM dresses and my fiance was with me. I told him it would only be 10 minutes. I really just wanted to see if they have the color I was looking for (they don't). there were a lot of BM dresses with bubble hems and he said he doesn't like them.......another reason i'm thinking about changing it. Not that he will notice the hem on the day of our wedding but still.
@clarebee I was thinking the same thing about bubble hems being a fashion trend. My dress is actually from the POB spring 2008 line and i'm not really seeing bubble hems anymore in wedding dresses so I actually think i'm a little late on the trend. Which is a hesitation I have with keeping the hem. I don't want to look back and say what was I thinking bubble hems are so gross!
I voted for removing the bubble hem. It is a very "in" thing at the moment and if you're going for a more timeless look, then I'd do away with the bubble hem. Just think of all those dresses in the 80s with the puffy sleeves and heart-shaped keyhole necklines which were all the rage back then, but now looking at them, it's like what were they thinking!
Leave it alone. It completes the look and adds a little something to it. It would end up looking bland w/o any flavor.
Definitely KEEP the bubble hem PLEASSEEE! It really makes the dress! I feel as if they were to make the hem with clean straight lines it would lose a lot of shape and the overall look of the dress might become dull.. and once they remove the bubble hem, and if you didn't like the straight line hem.. then what a nightmare that might be!!!
GORGEOUS DRESS!!
Ya know..I never considered myself a fan of the bubble. But it looks gorgeous on your dress.
Dont change it. It is beeeeeautiful..gorgeous..love it.
I LOVE the back of your dress! And I think the bubble suits the dress :)
Ask yourself what's more important: Having something modern and unique (go the bubble!) or having something that won't date as quickly (go the classic hem).

So i bought my dress as a sample since it was discontinued and i could never afford it at full price. I love the dress but am having issues with the hem. I can't decide if i like the bubble hem. I love the fullness of the skirt and I don't want to lose that. but i think that i like hte clean lines of a regular hem. Do people think it will look good without the bubble hem?
Here are some pictures of the whole dress and the detailing so you can see the pleats coming from the waist.
