@jackndiane: If you can afford it, do it! We opted against it, it was going to be an additional $1500!!!
I am doing same and found a great deal of $4.50, so ur pretty close. I say go for it
If it's not a huge budget issue I would go for it. I thought they definitely added to the look of our ballroom. I only have 1 picuture so far, but it's a good one! Still waitng on my pro pics!
I don't think they're necessary (especially if the other option is decent) but if you have the extra money and love the look, then go for it. If I could have gotten chiavari chairs for $5 a pop, I would have jumped at the chance. Then again, I LOVE me some chiavari chairs. The cheapest I could find was $9 each and that wasn't going to happen.
Ours are +$7 and it wasn't even a question. Love chivari chairs and the elegance they bring to a room! Good luck deciding-hope you get them!
A picture is worth 1000 words
the venue with the regular chairs

Our Venue with Chiavari chairs

Our venue has them as standard, which was one of the reason I picked it. But if I had to rent them I don't think I'd do it.
For us to rent them they were $10 each! So instead we're renting the spandex chair covers for $3.25 each instead and they look really nice!!
wow. I'm surprised that so many people are so pro chivari. My fi is maintains that it is a total waste of money. Hopefully, I will convice him otherwise
I want chiavari chairs too. They look so good in pictures and add a great ambiance. If you could afford it, go fot it! $5 is a steal. The cheapest I can find for the cherrywood ones I want is $8. =( I plan to rework my budget to see if I can fit it in otherwise its chair covers for me.
I think they are super uncomfortable to sit in which is why we have no interest in them!
I guess it depends on your venue chairs. the in the picture posted above I would definitely pay for them. he chairs that are at my venue, my FI and I decided we like them and we are not going to pay the extra money.
These chairs were the first thing I booked for the wedding, ahead of the reception and my dress!!! I love these chairs and at $15.00 each I didn't care, I ordered 260 of them. I can't wait.
If you want them get them and at $5.00 each they are a steal comparied to the price in Australia.
My mom and I had this conversation before my wedding. Once everyone is in the ballroom, and sitting in the chairs, you can't tell what they look like. That's the thing...people notice the ballroom once when they walk in...then they sit at the table and notice the centerpieces, not the chairs.
To those saying they're uncomfortable, I had chiavari chairs for my shower and I didn't think that they were any less comfortable than normal banquet chairs.
i really don't get the big deal over those chairs. they are just chairs.
is it really something that your guests are going to notice and/or care about? are you going to look back on your wedding 20 years from now and say "man, i am glad we sprang for those chivari chairs."?
Depends what your venue chairs are like. I would probably go for it as chair covers for banquet chairs cost that much (or more) so you might as well go for Chivari chairs;)
@rosworms: "are you going to look back on your wedding 20 years from now and say "man, i am glad we sprang for those chivari chairs."?"
For me, YES, I would definitely look back and be glad that we sprang for the chairs. That is if we actually got them. For some the chairs seem like a waste but to others they’re well worth it. I would have fallen into the “well worth it” category if we could have found them for the OP’s price.
@redband: Some of the venues that we looked at were charging $8 per chair COVER. I actually laughed at one of the venue coordinators after she told us. Apparently she didn’t think the price was as comical as I did, lol.
Our venue charged $6 (I think) but they ended up throwing them in for free since the coordinator thought they tied the room together better. Hey, I’m not gonna complain!
@UpstateCait: Sadly, my venue does not have chivari chairs (pretty much no chivari chairs in that country !) and luckily, chair covers are included in the venue hire charges BUT get this, I have to pay $7 per chair for a ribbon! :D:D:D
However, all said and done, I'm willing to do it because these things are just as important as flowers and other decorations. For me, if I can't get the whole look (doesn't have to be uber extravagant but has to be complete even if it's in a modest way), then I rather not have anything at all.
I'm torn because when I see pictures a venue with and without chivari, it always looks better with chivari BUT I couldn't tell you what the chairs at the last wedding I went to looked like if my life depended on it. Really, I never, ever noticed
I wouldn't bother. The last wedding we went to had them and they were really uncomfortable in that you couldn't lean back in them without the chairbacks stabbing you. If the provided chairs are nice and clean, I'd use them.
They're super uncomfortable, no one but other brides notice them, and, in FI's words, "Ugly as sin. They look like bones. They remind me of DEATH." (said very dramatically)
@unixfairy: that's a really good visual to show what a difference they make!
If it's in your budget go for it! If they would break the bank then no. I personally love them. I think it's a situation where people wouldn't notice if you didn't have them but if you did they would think it's a nice touch.
Luckily my venue came with them, albei in a very dark shade( oh god I wish they were gold). I say if it doesn't break the bank and it makes you happy go for it. Norma chairs are fine but there is something extra nice about chivari chairs.
Honestly, one of my wedding "must haves" was chiavari chairs and luckily for us, they came standard with the venue. I would say $5 is pretty good though so as long as it's not going to stretch your budget I would definitely go for it.
I'm paying $10 each! You got a good deal! If you can afford it, I think it's so worth it.
I never realized there was such a debate over these chairs! At our venue I mentioned chair covers and the manager was horrified, said OMG why would you want to cover the chiavari chairs?! He said it closes the room up. After looking at that set of pics PP put up, I see the difference. I say, if you can afford it, go for it, but if you need to cut your budget I would put that on the possible cut list for emergency money savings.

Bees. I need help with an age old debate. Do I get chivari chairs. Our venue charges $5 a pop for chivari chairs. The chairs that come with the venue are nice, but not nearly as nice as the chivari chairs.
