    Hi bees,

So my original plan for music was to burn CD's with our fave music and have them played during our reception, and have someone in control of them. But now I'm thinking that maybe we can just hire a DJ to take care of it so we don't have to worry about the hassle and all of that.

What do you think? Are DJ's really worth it? or should we just stick with our plan? opinions please!

@heyitssamyrae: Well it depends, how much would the DJ cost you? how much are you willing to spend?

I think the pros of having a DJ are your guests can requests songs and like you said it would be less stressful.. but the con is definitely the price.

If you have budget for it, it might be worth the peace of mind :)

You could ask around for a referral...my hairdresser's brother had a DJ business or friends of family would do it for less than the industry average.

@Miss_Marbles: Well, we're on a tight budget as it is, that's why I was just going with renting out a sound system, and having CD's play. I know that having a DJ would be soooooooo much more stress free, but at the same time I'm not sure if I want to invest in it. I know that some people would probably swear by one, but at the same time I've heard a lot of horror stories of brides and grooms not getting the songs played that they wanted, etc. etc. But I'm still thinking about it. Dancing isn't really THAT important to us, so it's not like we're worried about dancing the whole time, but having CD's play would work, just didn't know if investing in a DJ would be an "essential". lol

@pink.sequins: I know a guy that went to the same school as I did who now has his own DJ business. I'm sure that if I really wanted to I could ask him about prices and what not. I also have a lot of referrals from a bridal event that I went to so I should probably look over my options. lol Just still debating on whether or not it's worth the investment!

@heyitssamyrae: Friendor! It never hurts to ask...maybe he knows someone getting started that would give you a price break to get some experience/exposure :)

@heyitssamyrae: I have recently been to a few weddings with and without a DJ and here is my honest opinion, hire one if you can budget it.

The weddings I have been to with 45 guests and 120 guests without DJ's were chaotic without having one person to direct the guests, update them on what was happening and where they should be and making general announcements. Random people were screaming towards the crowd "go here" "time to eat" "first dance" etc and it was just so unorganized. They had burned cd's and an I-pod with someone in charge of making sure the music was playing but the Dj takes care of sooo much more than that.

The two weddings I attended with a Dj ran smoothly and everyone knew what was happening and where they were supposed to be. It just felt like a more successful event both times.

@heyitssamyrae:I think the value of a DJ depends ont he person doing the job. We have a DJ who is very well known around my area and is always fantastic at keeping the party going and the guests involved. To me, totally worth it.

@Treejewel19: You actually read my mind...I was wondering the experiences of those who have been to receptions sans DJ.

Anyone else? I haven't, so I can't comment either way.

@Treejewel19: Oh my goodness I never thought of all of that! I knew a DJ played music, but I honestly don't know why I forgot about the announcing and everything like that! Right after I read that, I emailed a DJ that is local, and I am SOOOOOOOOO going to get prices from him, as well as others! I really want my wedding to run smoothly, and for everyone to know what to do and where to go! I didn't look that deeply into it, thanks so much for the suggestions!!!
