To Have Photobooth or Ice Cream Stand/Cart? Which Would You Like or Choose?

I'm actually asking this for a dear friend!  She and her fiance have to pick one option. The photobooth was her fiance's idea, and the ice cream stand was her idea.  She says that the ice cream stand has a special meaning since they both love ice cream, but more importantly, that it will be more appealing to a wider population of people, especially the older folks who probably wouldn't even set foot in a photobooth but might get a scoop of ice cream.  The ice cream is scooped in front of you, and the flavors are gourmet/ fresh/all natural!

I don't know her fiance's perspective on the photobooth though.  It's probably because it seems so fun....at least from what I've seen in the pictures uploaded on Facebook!  =P Seems like a party-pleaser, especially after a few drinks!  Bwahaha.  =P

I think both are great ideas, so it's hard to choose.  I don't think having both is an option, so, they must choose one or forgo both ideas.  :(  I was leaning towards photobooth initially because they're already going to be having a LOT of amazing food at their cocktail hour/reception, but then she threw that curveball about the ice cream idea being more universally appealing.  ;)

So, which would you choose for your wedding?  And, which would you enjoy more as a guest?  :D  Any feedback would be much appreciated!!  Thanks!

Edit:  As an additional question, when would be a good time to have the ice cream stand available?   The options are either during the cocktail hour, or at the afterparty when everyone will either be dancing or just having a good time socializing?  :D

I was originally set on having a photo booth. I think they are so fun, and give people something to take home with them, and you can make a guestbook that you will actually look back on.

That being said, photobooths are really popular. Meaning, there will be lineups, and if she has kids at the wedding, will be trying to go back numerous times. While people are focussed on the photobooth/waiting in line, they are missing out on the rest of the activities.

I think for that reason, the ice cream bar may be a better idea. It can be located in the main reception area, so people can enjoy, but not miss out on anything.

We thought about both when we had an august date and ice cream is messy and there will be some kids and it does not go well with alcohol but photobooth's do not have these issues

We went with the photobooth - I can have ice cream any time but the photos are great memories

@metalbride: You bring up a good point about the lines!  Ice cream stand might produce a line as well, but I would say it probably moves faster depending on the server.  :D  The ice cream will be available either during the cocktail hour or after-party.

We were thinking about a chocolate fountian or a photobooth. We chose a photobooth. The pictures will last forever, and they tend to be a highlight at most weddings. The chocolate fountian would end up being too messy. I'd imagine ice cream would be messy as well.

@unixfairy: Hmmm, kids are a good consideration!  But, I assume if they're going to be making a mess with ice cream, they'd probably do it with their food too!  Hehehe.  Thanks!

I'd rather have an awesome picture from a wedding than an ice cream cone, but both are great choices :)

We're having an ice cream cart, and no photobooth.

So, umm, I'm gonna vote for ice cream cart. :)

Ice cream sounds pretty awesome, but pictures from a photo booth will last forever, so that's my vote :)

I am biased because I feel like photography is something that is essential -- with a photobooth you can capture memories that will last a lifetime.  The life cycle of ice cream is much shorter... lol

I really think the photobooth is a party-maker, especially if there will be a lot of guests at her wedding who haven't seen one before. And she may not need to worry about the older folks getting into it... at my BIL's wedding a few months ago, even the parents/aunts/uncles in their 60s & 70s were getting into it, even the moustache props!

Why can't they have both? We're having both!  Going with a caterer for the Ice Cream Stand, maybe even use Cold Stone Creamery. SO doesn't like cake, so we will most likely even do an ice cream cake through them as well.  For budget purposes so we can have booth, we'll do a DIY photo booth using Sparkbooth. Betwen the photo paper the computer program and the ink, we'll spend about 100 bucks!  Photo paper is on sale at Office Max on Black friday, $1.00 for 100 sheets of 4x6 paper.  See there's a way to do both!!!!

@secondchances: No problem, just happen to come across it as I was doing some Black Friday research. Not to mention, that's total Value as my SO would say. That's his favorite word.

OP I would personally do the photobooth if I had to choose just one but honestly I too hope to do both.

I'd prefer the ice cream, as would most folks I know. Most people would probably not eat it before dinner since they don't want to ruin their appetites.

I've seen photographers offer a photobooth as an add on, so I assume that's where they're getting their price from? Honestly there is no reason to have a professional run the photobooth. It's just fun pictures! Get an up and coming/recent grad photographer to run it. They'll do it for cheap to add to their portfolio, and they'll know enough about lighting and camera settings for the photos to still turn out great. That way they can afford both options!

I would totally choose the ice cream!  I'd say later at night.
