Our reception venue doesn’t require us to have wedding insurance but they “highly recommend it”. We’re serving alcohol and WedSafe quoted us $250. Is it a good idea or not to purchase it? I’m curious to know if we didn’t have it, what would the damage deposit on our venue cover for instance if the property was damaged somehow? Is the wedding insurance mainly for guest injuries?

If they’re “highly recommending” wedding insurance to you, you might want to double check and make sure the location itself is insured (which it would almost have to be). Wedding insurance is more to cover inclement weather, missing vendors, missing officiant, or property (i.e. if they go out of business before your wedding date). As long as you trust all your vendors, you should be okay. I work in insurance right now and we offer wedding policies. Personally, I think it’s a waste. About 1 in 200 actually file claims.
