To sweetheart table or not to sweetheart table…That is the question.

I liked having a head table for my bridal party and their spouses, and I loved that it was technically in the back instead of the front. I did not want to be at our own table with no one else to talk to, and I didn’t want people watching us eat. I like that we set up the table in the back because it was away from the food and dance floor. People had to venture over to talk to us, which allowed us to eat and sit in peace when we wanted to.

I hated the idea of being at one long head table – it’s impossible to talk to anyone and it feels like you’re on a panel of judges. I’m opting for sweetheart because I want to steal some private moments with my FI to make me feel more comfortable.

Sweetheart table:

  • only you and your now DH…. allows for private moments as well as allows guests to talk to you as a couple
  • allows bridal party member to sit with their respective SO’s

Head Table

  • keeps the bridal party together (easier for photographers to find everyone)
  • does not allow for SO’s of bridal party

I am a fan of the sweetheart table.

I went to a wedding as a guest of a groomsman.  There was a head table and I was seated with a group of people I did not know.  It made for a long night.

@Waitingbee57:  we decided on a sweetheart table so that our bridal party can sit and eat with their SO’ sand other friends. It’s all about preference and what your comfortable with. I also love the special moments that photographers capture at the sweetheart table such as a quick kiss or reactions during speeches.

Oh I should mention we didn’t do a traditional head table. We had people on both sides, so conversation was easy. Only DH and I didn’t have people on the opposite side of the table, so everyone could still see us.

We had a separate table just for us that was at the head of all the other tables.  It worked perfectly.  Everyone felt like they were included because they could see us, and we were facing everyone, but we were able to enjoy each other’s company.  The thought of having everyone sit with us was awful to me!!!

A sweet heart table is one of the things I know I want at my wedding. In all the craziness it will feel nice to sit and have a meal with just my new husband next to me.

We are going to have a sweetheart table.  We decided that having a bridal party is hard because you can’t have your bridal party sit there and not there SO’s… and with the SO’s…it would just be a lot of people.  So we agreed that we would rather have people sit with people they know and mingle at regular tables.  Plus, of the weddings we’ve been it doesn’t seem like the bride and groom actually sit down for very long, so  why have a bridal party table?LOL

I’ve been discussing this idea as well as I don’t like the idea of stranding people without their SO during dinner.

Interesting discovery came out of it, FI says that head table is usually the Bride and Groom and their parents. I believe that may be a Jewish custom.

Love the comments for pro and con or other ideas! Keep them coming!

I LOVED having a sweetheart table. It was the only time of the day- during dinner- that we actually had some time alone to talk. It felt much more intimate and is one of my favorite things about our wedding, looking back.

@Waitingbee57:  I LOVED our sweetheart table – we got sooo many compliments on it, people said they had never seen it done before, but really liked the idea!

I personally loved it because it was basically the only time throughout the whole day that I was alone with DH and not having to worry about anyone else.
