The weather. It might be hot, but at least it shouldn't rain! *knocks on wood*
I chose late May because the semester will be over, so it won't interfere with my friends and relatives who are in school.
My FI is in the military so May 7th was the only reasonable date we could come up with, it's not working out very well now since he's going to be doing a ton of flying from NY to TX and vice versa =/ but we can't change it now and since we postponed our wedding once already (originally Oct. 23, 2009) I just want to get it over with!
We chose late may because it is close to summer. My parents were married in may. And my birthday is in may. May just seemed like a good month. As for the weather i hope it's nice here but, it could be raining. Fingers crossed it is sunny.
we got engaged in november and said hmm...6 months should be enough to get the wedding going. and plus, i wanted to be a spring bride. :)
We choose May because we wanted a spring wedding with nice weather (fingers crossed for no rain*). I can't believe how fast the days are flying by now!!
I always wanted to be a May bride. However, I also considered getting married in the fall. It just so happened that when my FI proposed, May 2011 worked better than waiting until Fall 2011. Plus, the weather here is GORGEOUS in May!!
All of my friends have gotten married in the fall so I wanted to switch it up, I wanted Peonies, April/May are peak wedding months in FL because its not super hot/rainy/hurricane season yet. I then had to avoid multiple graduations and mothers day. I also avoided Memorial Day weekend because we're getting married on the beach and it would be crazy crowded that weekend.
We found our Venue May 1, 2010 and thought, hmm why don't we just do it one year from now?
We're getting so close girls! Yesterday was 2 months until for us!
We chose to get married in May because we wanted to get married this year. May 14th was THE ONLY weekend in 2011 when we could get married! Not joking.
I'm in nursing school, so I'm in school during the summer too. We are getting married in between this semester and the summer semester. I have a final the Wednesday the week of our wedding. We're driving to the beach Thursday. Rehearsal/Dinner on Friday. Married on Saturday. Staying until the following Friday. Start school a week after we get home from honeymoon! That weekend is the only weekend in 2011 when we can get married and have a week long honeymoon, and then I have a week off before I have to start back!
Busy time :)
I wanted a wedding full of peonies, so May fit the bill! We also wanted a long weekend so we could have our semi-destination wedding on a Sunday, so we were between Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day. May won out on all accounts :)
Good weather since having the reception outdoors is very important to us. Here in DC, March is cold and the weather gets nasty and hot starting around late June, so it was either April or May! I forgot how we got to the exact date though...
I always wanted to get married in an Outdoor Ceremony in Spring. The weather would be just right.
April would have been too risky because of the rain and the plants would still be budding. June would be too hot to be in Formal wear. So we chose May.
It seems to be the first batch of Weddings, so I liked being in the front!
@MrsMaine: I picked my date based on peonies as well! My birthday is in May, so aside from the flowers I've always loved the month.
well mine reason is not as exciting as some of you... i choose may because its the only date i could get my reception venue :) lol
We wanted an outdoor spring wedding, not too cool not too hot. Crossing fingers we luck out.
Now that we picked our date and everything is set, I'm like damn I wish I had about 3 more months to get everything ready. ha!
We chose May becuase we are doing a destination wedding. We needed to work around my fiance's school schedule, my work schedule, and when our friends and families availability to get time off.
Also, since we are doing a cruise, it also depended on the cruise schedules!
I know I'm taking over Mother's Day (as well as 2 birthdays) but we're going to do something special for our moms to thank them for letting us intrude on their day.
My FI and I chose May because we met around Memorial Day while on vacation with friends. I originally wanted the 28th but I'm so glad we went with the 21st instead. I'm excited now and couldnt imagine having to wait one more week. The only thing is the month of May in my state unpredictable. There is a chance of rain at any given moment.
We chose late May because FI graduates May 14 and then we'll be moving in mid-June. So, we needed to allow time for a wedding and a honeymoon before packing up and moving!
hey ladies!! its getting so close!! We chose May 21st because that is the day we began dating and four years later the day FI propsed..we will be getting married on our 5 year dating anniversary :)
My Dadzilla gave us one weekend in MAy or the month of October. . . and I always wanted a spring wedding :).
i love spring weather and the flowers i wanted were anemones and peonies so May just fit perfect not to mention May is the fiance's birthday month and the 27 is a day b4 my birthday (but in april) :D yay!
Our date was an easy pick -- it's been one of my favorite days for going on six years now! It's the sixth aniversary of the day we met!
may 29th because it's a sunday and the sight fee is cheaper. lol... and the next day is a holiday... so it really is like a saturday for everyone. we also chose late may because that's went all the flowers are in bloom at our venue.
last year's weather was a bit cooler around that time still and we were hoping it was going to be like that this year. i have a feeling that it's going to be scorching hot... but it is up near yosemite so ihope it's not so hot!
@Tswife4ever: I'm with you I'm in Southern California it is such a beautiful month so we went with May. less than 2 months! So excited!!!!
We thought it would be super sweet to get married a year to the day from the day we got engaged. And it really would have been... if that day wasn't Mother's Day this year! So instead we decided to stick with the month and just call it close enough. ;)
We met in May (2005), got engaged in May (2009), so only felt right to get married in May (2011). It is just our month I guess - and we like the Spring weather!
2 Months! I can't wait, I'm so excited! And I'm almost almost home! I can't believe the past six months have just flown by!
We decided that since our family and friends were scattered all over the States we'd need a 3-day weekend for the wedding, so that guests wouldn't have had to take time off. FI fell in love with our venue and the only 3-day weekends they had available were Memorial Day or 4th Of July.
Although we're very 'Patriotic' Bristol, RI has one of the LONGEST 4th of July parades in the country and we just didn't want to deal with that hassle of all the tourists and locals in town for that weekend.
We met in May, he proposed in May and the venue was available in May. It just seems like it was meant to be. :)

We need to keep the May 2011 board going :) As we get closer, I totally log onto Weddingbee and go straight to the May 2011 section. I love that we are all a tight knit group and I love how we are sharing all of our ideas. In 2 months we will all be sharing our wedding pictures, can you believe it!!!!! Just curious ladies, why did you choose May to get married? We chose it because in California, May always had beautiful weather.
