I really can’t stand that show.  I can’t believe the parents are allowing their children to treat them like slaves. I also agree, the some of those kids are going to be handfuls when the grow up.

Those parents truly are sick. Did one woman just say that they spend the equivalent of a brand new Mercedes every year on PAGEANT CLOTHES?!

That show is like a trainwreck, though…I just can’t look away! I want to punch that dad on tonight’s episode who keeps telling his daughter “You suck” — and I especially want to punch the mother for staying with that idiot. I agree; those girls are going to be very scarred, messed-up women when they grow up.

I absolutely do not agree with the types of pageants on that show.  I think the moms are trying to live vicariously through their little girls and that is just sick.  Little girls do not need hair extensions, fake teeth, spray tans, fake eyelashes, and TONS of makeup on their faces– it’s just wrong on so many levels!

I find it sickening that their little girl wins queen or say mini supreme and they get the shits and walk out.  And then the worst thing is the kids learn that to not win the biggest title is a disappointment to the parents, so then they chuck tantrums and cry because they didn’t win the highest title.  U have caught it a couple of times when there hasn’t been anything else to watch on TV and my heart broke for one girl who was calling herself a loser because she won queen and not supreme…… I hate to think the self esteem issues that poor little thing is going to have in her teens.

What happened to the days when your parents encouraged you to do your best and then praised you on your effort no matter the outcome?

I think all of those parents are sick.. it’s almost like they’re living out their dream to be a pagaent queen through their kids. And some of those kids look like they’re almost 20 with all the make-up they wear.

I disagree with the entire concept of little girls in pageants like that. Little girls should not be wearing makeup like that. Actually, no one should be wearing that much makeup because it’s just gross – but a little girl? Let her be a little girl! Don’t dress her up like a prostitute and parade around on stage and be judged against other baby prostitutes. Disgusts me.

I think local fair pageants like “Strawberry Festival” or local things like that, or pageants that REALLY focus on brains and real talents like arts/music/sports and not on young children looking like a 25 year old woman are fine (if such a type of pageant exists?)

But, I am always against objectifying little girls into grown up, sexualized objects. There is no other reason why 5 years olds would get extensions, spray tans, false teeth, colored contacts, airbrush makeup or any other nonsense, except to make them look like a fantasy “grown woman”. I think the parents on that show are terrifying.

There was a post awhile ago about this and I didn’t comment b/c it seems like the general opinion is that no one likes this show and disagrees with everything. Well I’m sorry but I really like it!! Embarassed It’s the one show I actually enjoy watching. The kiddos are just too cute and the ones that actually enjoy it are sooo funny!!! I would never spend that kind of money or put my child in something like that, but I watch it all the time!! I’m not going to make the claim that these are horrible parents either b/c I see worse parents when I go to Walmart sometimes. Just wanted to throw that in there even though I know most of ya’ll are gonna think I’m CraZy!!

The whole show freaks me out!!  I’m a child protection worker, and watching that show makes me want to scream…. total child abuse I SWEAR!!! I cant believe people raise their children that way and think it is okay… and then 01 years down the road they are going to be calling CPS wanting their children out of the house because they can’t handle them… GAH!!

We have a great terms for it at work… prosti-tots

I think it is nuts but I looove watching.  The funniest part of the whole thing to me is, as the OP pointed out, these people spend thousands of dollars on the pageant fees, clothes, coaches, tanning, etc. and the grand prize is like $500 for some of these things.

Haha! Its so funny to see peoples reactions. I don’t watch much TV but I have seen this show and the funniest part for me is one of my really good friends used to do this! Her mom still has hundreds of pics of her in pagents from the time she was a baby until about 16 years old. She has the tiaras too!! She LOVED it!!! I think she secretly wishes she could still do them!! I know if she has a girl that she has every intention of putting her into pagents. I’ll have to ask her how she feels about the show!

I think that it is sick that those parents think it is normal to do that.  Shave your 8 year olds’s legs… I don’t think so.

I think these things are beyond crazy, sick and teach horrible self-esteem lessons to young girls. “You aren’t pretty enough because you didn’t win..”  “We need to put lots of makeup on you to make you look beautiful”…gimme a break. These parents (sorry if this is super harsh) are sick for pressuring their kids to be “perfect”…let them be kids!!!!
