Okay hive - we have a geographically and socioeconomically diverse group of people here. So, once and for all, what's the correct way to dispense toilet paper? Vote, and let your voice be heard!
Over over over.
This feels like a really weird research survey. The kind you hear about in the news and think "WHY would someone spend money researching THAT?!" Like the effect of dead catapillars on a child's Id or Ego.
Just to prove how bad I am about changing it-for my job at night I have to clean the bathroom (glamorous I know) and believe you me when I'm on duty the tp is changed to the "correct" position
OVER! I find it creepy when its under, like its picking up germies as I unroll it....I totally know that irrational!
OVER! And yes, I change it at other people's houses if it's wrong....horrible, I know.
Hahaha, such a funny poll. But it's very true---people can be very picky about the way their toilet paper is. I am not that picky about it--I do like it over but I usually won't change it if it's going the other way.
@KMSull - In the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, a peer-reviewed journal, there was a paper a while back about the phases of the moon and their effect on what sorts of clients are seen at emergency clinics. I find that both awesome and entertaining. Alas, it puts my piddly TP poll to shame.
I love this. I totally voted for the first one. I have totally changed it too. Fortunately FI agrees with me. Another reason why I love him.
As a middle school teacher I can tell you the moon and the weather DEF affect behavior! I totally think that this study could be the same level! ;)
What about a neither option? In our main bathroom, unless we're having guests over, I keep have to keep the roll propped up on it's side, on top of the roller. Otherwise I'll come home to the roll unraveled all over the floor, thanks to my pesky cats!
When I was a little girl, my aunt told me some day I would love someone enough to fight over this. She was so right!
Do people really care about this? Seriously? I couldn't even tell you what way the toilet paper was right now! And I used to be a custodian, so in my professional opinion, no one really gives a crap. Ba-da cha! :P
CaliValley My cat does the same thing and currently the toilet paper is sitting on the counter! :D
Definitely over...I stayed with my lil sis and her FI recently and was automatically correcting it (they like under). Finally my little sister asked all of us..."Who has been changing my toilet paper all week?" Then she points at me and says "I know it's you...you are so anal!"...LOL...BUSTED!
I think the correct way to load toilet paper is definitely over. However, if you click on the following link, you will find out why I HAVE to load it UNDER in my house!

@MrsK2be...LOL...that's funny. My sister's puppy used to do that...and then shred it to bits after he rolled it all off during the day.
I've never known about a correct way or not but I do change it if it's not OVER. I try to resist the urge if I'm in others peoples houses but I had no idea other people had this weird urge.
Keep in mind, if they have pets, that might be the reason for your friends loading under.
It might not be proper, but sometimes it's just necessary!
@stlginkgo: I thought I was the only one who had thought about that!!! I totally feel like it's just gonna wipe the wall behind it if it's under. GROSS!!!!!!!!
i will only change it in our house, but i like it over. i feel like it just keeps rolling if you leave it under...
Glad to know I'm not the only obsessive-compulsive one on this thing. I can't stand it if the toilet paper isn't coming over the top!
I just was talking about this with my hubby about 20 minutes ago! He hardly ever replaces the empty toilet paper roll and the few times he does, he puts it on with it coming out underneath. Hate it!! I don't want to have to look under the roll while I'm on the toilet trying to find the loose end. If it's on top, it's right there practically handing itself to you!
Phew, I feel better now.
I don't think they are people who think the 'proper way' is under I think there are just a lot of people that just don't care at all and didn't know there was a proper way!
My mom told me the proper way but I could care less and do it whichever way it falls when I put the roll on!

I am obsessed with the TP being over and will fix it if it's wrong! Otherwise, it all comes out in blobs!

Over, and I do fix it if it's wrong- actually at one point an argument ensued over this subject when I was at a friend's house and was yelling at her from the bathroom that her toilet paper was the wrong friggin' way, and all I could hear from the bathroom was her FI's "SEE I TOLD YOU!!"
i'm an over person. and i will change the roll when it's not. haha. i just saw this in the paper today!

I never thought of myself as that person who is so OCD that if they dont like they way the toilet paper is they will change it but alas I am. LOL

Definitely over! I don't change it if it's under, but I do look at the under-roll with disdain, lol.
Over! My mother is an under person, and it drives me NUTS. Also, if it's over, our cat likes to unroll the whole damned roll. lol
Over!! FI has his under in his bathroom and whenever I use his, it bothers me.
