Okay – So I’m sure this is totally random but I am curious – what ply of toilet paper do you use at home?
Background on my question – I’ve always been a bit of a toilet paper snob and love my 3-ply Quilted Northern toilet paper. I always find lower plys to not be soft enough and to tear too easily.
Well after having been in our brand new home for just over a month, we got an awful clog in our plumbing. After 3 hours and two plumbers and the commercial sized snake, they finally got out the clog – which was composed entirely of toilet paper!
Apparently the new low-flush, water conserving toilets can’t handle multi-ply toilet paper because they don’t use enough water to flush it fully through the pipes. So the plumbers said I need to switch to single ply paper. 🙁
I can’t be the only one who desires to use a multi-ply paper to wipe my derrière, right?

I’m not sure what my husband bought last time but I know my mom definitely downgraded and I hate it! I’ve also been a bit of a toilet paper snob.

@Mrs.KMM: Ohhh TP is sooooo important!! Cottonelle all the way and it is multi-ply. When we remodeled our bathroom it was very important that my fiance got the most powerful flushing one so we shouldn’t have that issue, of course we probably waste more water…that isn’t good!

2-ply for us. We have European toilets and I’m not sure they could handle 3-ply. We usually have to flush more than once for anything!!!

We use Charmin Basic which is one ply. It’s my favorite toilet paper though. (I kind of feel weird saying that, but it is.)

We use Scott extra soft which I think is 2 ply (maybe?). Growing up my mother always bought the regular Scott toilet paper which is pretty much the equivilant of sand paper. I want to wipe my ass, not saw through it.

My parents always used the single ply growing up, and I hated it so much. We do the Up and Up 2-ply! A little extra goes a long way!

@UpstateCait: That’s hilarious!

We use 2-ply. I didn’t even know they made 3-ply!
@MissBoPeep: I tried the Charmin Basic once. It was pretty good. Too bad the only place around here that seems to carry it is Walgreens, and we’re usually at another store when we remember we need toilet paper.

Yeah, i didn’t know about 3 ply!

I use the old fashioned Scott one-ply – BUT I use Cotonnelle moist wipes for certain business. I can’t even use regular TP for that anymore, the Cotonnelle wipes ruined me for regular TP, I never feel clean unless I use them. Not sure if that solves your problem, but I haven’t had any problem with the moist wipes flushing. I think our toilets are pretty standard.

@strawbabies: I usually get it at the dollar store or CVS.

I always buy recycled! Even if it’s only 50% because it’s hard to find 100% in more than 1 ply, it’s still better than all new fibers.

@kimm99: Oh no – the plumbers said the flushable wet wipes are a HUGE no-no in the water-saving toilets. Because I use those too. 🙁

I also wasn’t aware of 3 ply. Learn something new everyday!
We use 2 ply.
