Hi all. This is my very first post. My fiance and I got engaged back in December, but I was starting my last semester of my degree and I barely had time to breathe, so I wasn’t able to read the forums as much as I would’ve liked. I did, however, get a lot done for being as busy as I was. We already picked out our ceremony location and we’re now in the process of the contract for the officiant and the site. We reserved our reception location and our D.J. Now that I’m done with that degree, I can start to really move foward on the wedding planning and all the pent up excitement is about to burst now that I have the time to do it all.
Anyway, our wedding is set for May 18, 2012, so it is just a little under a year away. I know that my fiance and I are going to be doing the majority of this on our own (which I love), but that also includes paying for 95% of the wedding. We’ve really taken on the challenge and have been budgeting and researching so that we get the best products and services for the best price. This includes getting our stretch hummer H2 reserved and paid for already and because of when we booked, we got our getaway car for after the reception for free from our limo service! I know that I’ll have my mom, my fiance’s mom, my MOH, and bridesmaids to count on for helping me to make decorations, favors, etc., but I also know that we are ALL busy and I don’t want to put too much on them, but I’m also just excited to be doing all of this.
I’ve already got all of our bubbles for our guests as we leave the ceremony done. I got them and have already tied and curled pink and white ribbons on each of them. Unless we add more guests (we’re right around 200 right now), all of them are done and in a cute floral box labeled “ceremony bubble wands”. When some co-workers of mine found out I just completed these, they gave me a hard time for getting them done 11 months ahead of time. I politely explained that my fiance and I are doing a lot of it on our own and don’t want to bother others with stuff we can do if we budget our time. Also, I know later on when we’re making 200+ favors, we won’t want to think “wow, we have 200+ bubble wands to do and centerpieces, etc. etc. etc.”
Am I really too eager? Or has anyone else jumped to getting the things done that you can (such as bubblewands because obviously I can’t do edible favors right now) way ahead of time? My coworkers kind of made me feel like an excited 10 year old for having that done already and my readiness to take on the next task.
