I always use this rule for myself….wait a couple of days.  If it’s still on your mind and you’re still wanting to purchase after that then go for it!  PP is right, they may stop making it and then you’ll really be crushed!  I don’t think it’s crazy to purchase now, it might actually be better.  DH and I bought our rings 4 months out (we only had 6 months to plan!) and it was a disaster to say the least.  When we finally got our rings 3 weeks before the wedding both were wrong!  No engraving for me and wrong fit for him.  We had to send them back and picked up his ring the day BEFORE the wedding.  If you buy early that nonsense won’t happen to you! 🙂

I’m not engaged, so I’m obviously not looking at buying a wedding band, but I think buying your wedding band now, if you love it, is fine!

I know the type of wedding band I want to go with my engagement ring and once we’re engaged, if I find the band I love, for a decent price, I’ll by it – if my wedding’s 2 months away, or two years.

I know just what you mean! I have found a band I love but we’re still a year out. I think it depends on your personality – are you likely to change your mind or will you be happy with it once you get it?

Personally, I have changed my mind almost every two weeks about what I want in a band. Diamond, plain, engraved, carved, arty, coloured gemstones, thin, thick, one metal, two tone – I have literally wanted them all at some point. I plan on waiting until around Christmas and if I am still in love with my current fave then that will be the winner!

But if you are more likely to make a decision and stick to it, then I don’t think it’s too early at all. If your heart is set on it and you think you’ll regret it if it sells out, then buy it!

If your not generally someone who changes their mind a lot, but are quite practical…..I’d say buy it, before the prices go up. Seems like a very sensible idea, just dont go looking at alternatives after its in your hands or you may end up disapointed.

When it came to deciding on a wedding band I’ve always known it would be yellow gold plain or engraved (no stones) so for me buying it in advance before prices went up would have been brilliant. We are not that organised though, so it was ordered three weeks ago for our september wedding. Its in the shop and I’m looking forward to going to pick it up. As I told the jewler victorian scroll pattern and he was going to make it up. I dont really know exactly what i will be getting!

I love your choice, pretty, classic, but just a little different.

I’ve already purchased my wedding band, and I’m over 2 years away from my wedding!  I knew exactly what I wanted, I found a great deal, and I jumped on it.  Sounds like you’re in a similar situation, so go for it!

@chronicwhimsy:  Snap, all my (bought by parents “good” jewelry) is yellow gold too. And im so used to seeing wedding rings in yellow gold it just seems right.

I’m curious about your engaement ring now, I’d take a guess at something slightly different, maybe a gemstone with detailing in the band, or a classic dainty solitaire. How did I do?

Oh – that’s a beauty. When you said that it was the “closest” you’d come to the band you really want, I was going to type something entirely different. I didn’t because I just love the look of an engraved band with diamonds. It IS gorgeous. I say grab that beauty and never look back!
