Hi bees, I haven't posted much and I only just started wedding dress shopping. I was originally reluctant to try on anything fit and flare styled because of my nicely sized child bearing hips. Then, I tried on dresses and in person felt that fit and flare dresses were my best option. Looking at pictures of my top pick from the day, though, I am beginning to doubt that. So, please, tell me honestly- Am i too hippy to wear a fit and flare style? (PS it would be modified to a sweetheart neckline)
This dress is gorgeous and you look stunning in it! I love the belt too!
I think you look lovely in this gown; however, in your comments, you come across as not really being sure. I suggest, since you still have time, to go and look at more gowns. You can always come back to this one, if it keeps haunting you.
I think it creates a nice silhouette. You are probably being more critical of yourself than anyone else would ever be. I like it!
GORGEOUS!! That is so feminine and flattering on you...I say ROCK IT, GIRL! :)
I said other - I actually think it looks great and will look amazing with an a-line. But it does defintiely draw attention to the hips. Personally, looking at you (or headless!you at least ;) ) I think it looks pretty awesome (curvy in all the right ways!), but if it's a part of you that you are insecure about you may feel more comfortable in something else.
I totally thought from your subject line that it was going to be some sort of flowie flower child sixties dress, btw.
I also just wanted to say that you are probably having doubts because you are not used to wearing clothing that is so form fitting.
Rock them curves! (Unless, of course, you don't feel comfortable).
I think it looks really nice, but I do think it draws some attention to your hips. Its the ruching in the fabric, the diagonals are leading you out, making your hips look bigger. I think fit and flare could work for you, but this particular style accents it a little more than most. You should just try on every fit and flare you can find! You never know :)
OP: I am also pear shaped and told I am not "supposed" to wear mermaid, trumpet, or fit and flare styles. But haven't you heard? Hips are in!! Hahaha!! You go girl!
...also, you LITERALLY have an hour glass shape in that dress. VA-VA-VA-Voom!!
WOW! that looks gorgeous! you have a perfect hourglass figure. I think that dress was made for you.
From the name of your post I pictured "Hippie" so I was going to come on and say "Nothing can be too "hippie"! I love hippies!" haha anywho, I do love your dress and NO its Not too "Hippie". Very flattering!
thanks everyone for your comments! I really appreciate it
@noritake22: no i am not 100% sold on this dress in particular (although it was my top pick of my first day shopping), although i wish i were- it is way cheaper than I expected and the name of the design is my first name! But i was sold on a more form fitting dress than i anticipated
@arenyth: you are right, maybe this one dress doesn't represent them all anyway
That dress looks like it was made for you - - it looks stunning on you, seriously. You look drop dead beautiful!
I think with the sweetheart neckline it will look even more beautiful!
While I think you look great in the dress, you should have something YOU feel comfortable and beautiful in. If you think your hips look too big in the dress, you are going to be worrying about it from now until the end of time (with pictures.)
But if you feel beautiful and confident with the fit and flare, you have nothing to worry about. You look stunning.
I think it's gorgeous, but I agree with @In the media, make sure it's something you love- if you're uncomfortable, no matter how gorgeous it is, it's not the right choice.
I hope you stay with it though, because it is lovely. :)
I said "other" - I think you have a fabulous figure for dresses in that shape, but I don't really care for that one in particular. I think that you should hold out for something you really love, as opposed to just your "top pick of the day," and continue to try on dresses with that fitted shape.
I think it looks gorgeous on you! I love this dress! Its a La Fleur dress by Anne Barge, right?
@agerard23: Wow! Great find! It looks almost identical to this Anne Barge gown...
I think the dress looks amazing on you!! I vote YES, keep it/get it. If you don't absolutely love it, I still think you should consider this cut--and maybe try on some that are fitted to various points on the leg. I think a dress that is fitted to the knees would elongate your body nicely if you're worried about looking too "hippy," but again, I love the curvy effect of this dress!
I was expecting a picture of a flowing grecian dress in front of a VW bus LOL You look very well proportioned and great in that dress! It really defines your waist and I think the sweetheart will make you look even more hourglass. Definitely keep shopping, but take more pics from all angles and keep this one in mind. You want to feel completely comfortable in it. So glad you are adventurous and trying on all different styles! oh, and this is only $750?? awesome
I think your hip doesn't look very big. But my advice is... also try some A-line and then compare which style looks better on you. No need to decide immediately, right?
You have some awesome curves! This dress looks sooo good on you!
Coming from another "hippy" bride, I think you're well proportionate so it looks awesome!! I think that's the dress for you! Good find.
It looks great. The sweetheart will draw attention up, and the mermaid will draw it down - trust me, no one will even notice your hips. Only your curves. Which is a good thing!
It looks fantastic! Fit and flair, IMO, looks the best on someone with hips.
My first reaction to your pic, "Most women would kill for that beautiful hourglass figure!" ...After reading OP's, it seems like other bees think so too! You really look stunning in that dress! It looks like it was made for you!
It really does draw a lot of attention to the hip area....
I think, though, that what you dislike probably has more to do with the dress than you. A very persuasive salesperson at David's Bridal convinced me to try on a fit-and-flare despite all my objections, and it actually did a great job of NOT drawing a ton of attention to the hip area, while still giving the trumpet-type silhouette.
The URL for the dress is here:http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_All-Over-Lace-A-Line-Gown-with-Obi-Sash-CWG365_Bridal-Gowns-Features-Designer-Gowns-Oleg-Cassini
Keep in mind, I'm a size 8 in shirts and a size 12/14 in pants. I put this lower-body-huggin' dress on and it made my mama cry. You're quite a bit less pear than I am, so it would probably look AMAZING on you.
