I know the only thing I’ll want out of my honeymoon will be to sit on a beautiful beach and relax! But my fiance thinks that any Caribbean destination will be too hot in August. We’re really open to the location – we’re just looking to relax and for the trip to be economical! It doesn’t necessarily have to be in the Caribbean – as long as it’s in a hot place! Any of your own experiences or your own honeymoons??

sylviakimcota: I got married in Mexico in August and spent my honeymoon there as well, so two weeks in total. It was definitely warm, but not unbearable. If it rained, it was a short and welcome rain that quickly cleared up, or you could enjoy the rain in the pool bar, under the roof so you didn’t get wet, but it was still warm out. You must like warm temperatures, but I did it in my full-on large and heavy wedding gown, although it is much more enjoyable in a bikini!

sylviakimcota: We went on a southern Carribean cruise for our honeymoon during the first week of September. It was hot, but tolerable. We spent a lot of the time in the water, on the beach and air conditioned places. It was great and we went to the westeven Carribean this past September as well. Though hot, we have no regrets!

Didn’t honeymoon in the Caribbean, but I used to live there. Yes, it’s hot it August. If you are at the pool or beach make sure there is plenty of shade. And have lots of water available! It’s not unbearable.

Just saw you are from Canada, so it will definitely be more than you are used to, but I don’t think it’s unbearable.

Thanks everyone! My fiance and I actually used to live in Mexico so we’re used to really humid weather but we also know that we don’t want such humid temperatures during our honeymoon. But good to know that the Caribbean would be doable!! Thanks!

sylviakimcota: We got married just outside of Cancun in July and yea it was hot, but not unbearably so. We were both from Georgia so we are used to the super heat with a ton of humidty, but we have lived in northern CA for 6 years now and it never gets above 70 so we really wanted heat! I really enjoyed the heat actually, mainly because it wasn’t super humid. It was very enojoyable with the pool and beach nearby and lots of water and watery beer… We went to visit our families in GA directly from Cancun and THAT was an unbearable heat! It did rain a few times, but it was always very short showers and felt great afterwards!

sylviakimcota: I’d be more worried about hurricanes than the heat. I think that yes, it will be hot, but if you’re on a beach, you can cool off in the ocean or in the pool.

Maybe not unbearably hot, but the sun is really intense, especially by the water. The tops of my feet blistered because that was the one place I didn’t apply sunscreen. Pack a sun hat and some SPF

we had our weddingmoon in Jamaica in July. It was humid as HELL. The heat wasn’t really the problem, although it was 87-90 degrees daily. I would just make sure you get trip insurance just in case of hurricanes.

Aruba. The weather is pretty consistent there all year long (low-mid 80s) not very humid at all, and it’s outside of the hurricane zone.
I’ve been to other islands and just sweltered.

sylviakimcota: We went to Aruba in July. It was AMAZING. It was hot, but there is a CONSTANT 25 mph wind there so it never feels stifling. I don’t know about other destinations, but I would highly recommend Aruba with it’s awesome breeze and sunny weather (seriously – it never rains and is outside of the hurricane belt).

I’ve been to the Caribbean before in the summer, and it wasn’t particularly hot. When I think of summer time hot I think of some place like Las Vegas or down South where there’s hardly any breeze. That’s not the case in the Caribbean. We actually just spent a wonerful honeymoon in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. We stayed at Picara Pearl Villa & Suites Magens Bay. http://www.picarapearl.com. It’s close to Magens Bay Beach, which is a Top 10 beach. The water is so clear, it seemed unreal. It was quiet and romantic at the villa and absolutely gorgeous! The suite had everything we needed including a kitchen. We cooked a few meals to save money, but we also went to a few of the restaurants. The food was delicious! There’s lots to do too. We went to Coral World Ocean Park and did the Sea Trek (walking underwater and observing the marine life), which was so much fun! We also did a sunset dinner cruise and also toured the island. We purchased our excursions through the Picara Pearl website as well as our airline tickets. We really didn’t want to leave. We stayed 7 days but could have used a few more. I looked on their website again, and it looks like they have some new specials for next year. So, you could probably save some money. We can’t wait to go back!

iheartdc: FI and I went to the Northsea Jazz Festival for the Labor Day weekend last year and it was paradise on earth! Warm (between 79 and 89 all the time) and breezy! Plus the water was almost like electric turquoise in color!!! We couldn’t take our eyes off of it. Can’t wait to go back!
We also just decided TONIGHT actually that we are going to postpone our trip to Paris which was going to be our honeymoon destination and save it, instead, for our first anniversary trip because that will also be our 10th dating anniversary! So instead, we are planning a quick (and cheap!) trip to the caribbean to use our time share and keep saving money so we can do it much bigger the following year.
