I don’t see a huge problem with it. I think it’s still far enough away from your date that you can get away with it, but do it sooner than later.

I’m thinking the same thing @queensbride We had one after he proposed– legit, hours after and it was surprise and was mostly my family and our very close friends. I feel his family got a little left out (his immediate family and a few aunts were there) and would like if we did it but I don’t know if it’s too much. We’re not getting married for over a year so it’s not like there will be anything else coming soon (bridal shower, bachelorette, etc).

Would people be annoyed or happy to celebrate?

Additionally, it would be his mom to throw it and she wants to and loves doing party planning but I don’t want to overwhelm her either.

We haven’t had our engagement party yet either. Life just gets in the way sometimes. We’re still going to have one just so our families can all meet before the wedding.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, especially since you really aren’t doing it for gifts. Just have it be a low-key gathering where you can celebrate with your friends and family! 🙂

I say sure but do it soon if you’re having a shower because you don’t want to obligate guests to give you a gift every two months or so!
